I am happy, interesting, and interested.

My Self-Summary

I enjoy life. The downside of life is how ridiculously short it is. Seriously, the universe is 14 billion years old and we get 100 tops. Who made that arrangement? So, given that situation, I'm focusing on happiness and authenticity.

What I’m doing with my life

I have my own graphic design business (branding, packaging, websites, etc), which has been doing well for years but doesn’t make me wealthy. Although, to be fair, “wealth” is a relative term. The biz pays all my bills and affords me the opportunity to do work I enjoy for a living. That’s worth a lot to me.

I maintain perspective and balance. OK, I try to.

I’m really good at

tennis, art, computer design programs, discussing those things and much more.

The first things people usually notice about me

First we notice what we see. With me that's 5'11', 165 pounds, brown hair (you'll note some gray in the sunlight) and a stiff neck.

When we talk, people notice my clarity, sincerity, sense of humor and a taste of sarcasm.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

• I play tennis 3 times a week. Seriously, I should be much better at it considering the time I spend on the court. From tennis I’ve developed a great group of people I can share the blessed Southern California weather with. I’m in good shape, but you know that statue of David, well, if you’re looking for him, you’ll have to go to Italy.
• I read. The LA Times comes to my door daily. I subscribe to The Economist, Time, Rolling Stone, Communication Arts, and some others. I’ve been reading a book constantly since I was 12 (no, not the same one). Mostly fiction with a mix of historical and contemporary analysis in an attempt to keep informed.
• I think movies are our greatest art form in that they combine all arts into a synthesized whole. OK. They can also be our crappiest art form, but that’s where discussion comes into play. That’s part of the art form and fun of it all.
• I don’t watch much TV. There is usually something I’d rather do. I do like to play games. Scrabble, backgammon, cribbage, cranium and other fun ways to pass time interacting with friends. Video games? Maybe. I haven’t spent much time with them.
• I drink but never (on purpose anyway) get drunk. I sneak a smoke now and then.
• Animals. I’m a big fan. Nothing like that unconditional love you get to give and receive.

The six things I could never do without

The following are not in order of importance:
1) Reading
2) Tennis (or some exercise)
3) The act of creation (making art of some kind)
4) My friends and family
5) curiousity
6) apple, google, craigslist (they are all kind of one thing to me)

I spend a lot of time thinking about

work, art (making and consuming), my place in the world and how to make the most of it.

On a typical Friday night I am

Whatever night, it typically revolves around the interests I've talked about.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I’m divorced for 1 year from a relationship of 20 years. Nobody was happy. We needed to move on. She’s a good person and I wish her only the best. Despite the inevitable pain involved it was for the best. We sold the house, divided the stuff, I gave her a bunch of money, and that, shockingly enough, was that. Tough as it was, it’s 100 times easier with no kids.

Now I live in a nice multi-room apartment with an office, patio full of plants, garage full of stuff and absolutely none of the homeowner headaches (I didn’t realize the relief of that until some minor thing went wrong here and it was corrected with a simple phone call to management, instead of 2 trips to Home Depot and an afternoon of effort).

The only thing missing, in what is actually a very nice existence, is someone to share a bit of quality time with.

Too much, too private, for the intro page? What do you think?

You should message me if

If what I’ve told you about me strikes a cord of familiarity. It’s a big world but hopefully you live someplace between Ventura and the Valley where the 101 freeway can serve to bring us quickly together.
