I am insouciant, sybaritic, and perspicacious.
My Self-Summary
I like: being cooked for and/or read to, big libraries, bloody
marys, bubble baths, carnivals, cuddling, cupcakes, decorating, dim
lighting, down comforters, Eddie Izzard, feminism, fondue,
Hendrick's gin, hookahs, kissing, Lake Michigan, lotion, margaritas
early in the day, nesting, the OED, pet names, planning parties,
sleeping late, slippers, spreadsheets, toile, tulips, watching
television, wearing boys' shirts, and the word 'cunt'.
I dislike: bad wine, cheap toilet paper, cilantro, driving on brick
roads, dumb euphemisms for sexual acts and genitalia, Faulkner,
'heart' as a verb, militant Christians, organized fun, people who
stand on the left side of escalators (seriously, move the fuck
over), the Pierces, self-righteous non-smokers, Shakespeare, and
sunburns.
I’m really good at
Alphabetizing, baking, bantering, decorating, drinking, grocery
shopping, kissing, listening, lounging, organizing (I'm not
actually that organized myself, but I'm damn good at it), planning
parties, remembering names and faces, sleeping, spelling, spending
too much money and staying up mind-numbingly late.
I bet "I'm really bad at" would make for more interesting answers.
The first things people usually notice about me
Whenever I've tried to answer this I've had a terrible time getting
past the literal "well, it depends on where they see me!" nonsense.
So, rather than trying to get past that, I will try to embrace it!
If one notices me on the street, it's because I'm walking with
purpose and fighting to not sing along with my ipod. If I'm noticed
in the grocery store, it's because I'm wandering around aimlessly,
going up and down the same aisles multiple times. If I'm at the
bar, I'm noticed because I'm half in my cup and enthusiastically
singing along to Queen, Styx or Journey.
Feel free to ask about specific locations and I'll give you
descriptive answers!
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Books Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Baise-Moi, Egalia's
Daughters, Geek Love, Sula, Valley of the Dolls, and Written on the
Body. This isn't a book, but also, Archie Comics. Trust me - get
drunk and buy one, you won't regret it.
Movies Alice in Wonderland (1985 TV version), the Breakfast
Club, Desperate Living, Dummy, Harold and Maude, Heathers, the
House at the Edge of the Park, Overboard, Pink Flamingos, the
Princess Bride, Rushmore, Time of the Gypsies, Troop Beverly Hills,
and any terrible horror movie. In short: the campier, the
better.
Music Amadou & Mariam, Bob Dylan, CocoRosie, Devendra
Banhart, Edith Piaf, Fiona Apple, the Howling Bells, Joanna Newsom,
Leonard Cohen, Liz Phair, Magnolia Electric Co., Nada Surf, Neko
Case, Nellie McKay, the New Pornographers, Nick Drake, Peaches, the
Pogues, Regina Spektor, Sleater-Kinney, and Smog.
Food Almond steamers, bacon, bananas, blood sausage,
breakfast sandwiches, butter cookies, croissants, foie gras,
grilled cheese sandwiches, peanut sauce, pesto, quiche, red wine
(Spanish, please), scallops (sea, never bay), sushi, and white
cake.
The six things I could never do without
A big glass of water after orgasming.
Chapstick.
Intelligent conversation.
Reading material.
Reckless abandon.
Wine.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Sex, money, which book to read next, people I see on the street,
how to decorate my apartment, and all kinds of other things. I also
have a really creepy habit of imagining all the terrible things
that could happen to me in any given situation.
Anyone else notice that this is my only non-alphabetized list?
On a typical Friday night I am
if out: probably drunk, with my friends.
if home: watching a really bad horror movie, or drinking and doing
puzzles and singing along to whatever is playing.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I once
made out with a carny. His
name was Lumpy.
You should message me if
you know all the words to Warren G's "Regulate"
MOUNT UP.
