What I’m doing with my life
Working a pretty sweet day job while getting a comic book underway, being near to my family again and enjoying Auckland.
I’m really good at
Writing: My day job is technical writing, but I am also a Writer writer - so one way or another, a lot of my time and thought goes into ordering words in sentences to express meaning as clearly as possible. (I'd like to say 'elegantly', but settle for 'clear').

Cooking: Love cooking, have a few nice kitchen things, and now with a good kitchen to work in, I just need more time!

Teaching: It's fun watching the aha! moment happen, and knowing you helped in some way.

Sex: It's fun watching the aah! moment happen, and knowing that you helped in some way.

Humour: I'm funny, fairly dry. Except when I'm being a complete idiot.
The first things people usually notice about me
People say I have a nice smile. That I'm quiet, and I notice everything. That I'm left handed. My hands, in general.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Larnak by Alisdair Grey, Comics by Grant Morrison, Warren Ellis and Matt Fraction, anything written by Alice Munro, Joan Didion. EB White and Donald E Westlake are recent (re)discoveries!

Films: John Carpenter's The Thing, Stalker, Up in the Air was good, Micheal Mann movies - it seems like he's the last man standing making big movies that aren't egregiously dumb. Oh, and Christopher Nolan films that don't feature Batman (Batman is so played out). Micheal Winterbottom, especially if Steve Coogan and/or Rob Brydon are involved. Sunshine is my favorite Danny Boyle film.

Music: The: Clash, Besnard Lakes, Battles, New Pornographers, Big Black, Sandy Denny, Pretenders, The Who, Don Caballero, Brian Eno and Roxy Music.

Food: Mexican. There are a couple of places around and Mexican Specialties is as good as anywhere in the world, but I miss readily available good mexican food. Italian - I cook risottos a lot, and one of these days, I'm gonna order spag bol, just to find out what it was before it turned into the student flatting staple. French food = butter and garlic, with some other stuff. If for some reason I stopped caring about not being fat and unhealthy, I'd eat nothing but french food.
The six things I could never do without
#1:My Laptop. Maybe BBEdit counts as #2. #3: A pen and a notebook. #4: Admit it, the internet. #5: Glasses. #6 Coffee. Damn, now there's no room for 'Chef's knife.' Oh well, #5: Chef's Knife, and shit's just gonna have to be blurry.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Politics. American Politics. Technology. How to write a comic book synopsis. How to write good sentences. Music. What I'm going to listen to while I run. How far I'm going to run today. What people are wearing. The strange stuff that goes on every day, like the guy in a suit, waiting for the 8.15 from Mt Eden to Britomart, juggling to pass the time. The Future, specifically the next 50 years. Jokes, gags and silly things.
On a typical Friday night I am
At home watching a movie with friends and planning the weekend.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Ask me anything and I will tell the truth. Gulp.
