My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Looking for friends and new adventures. My current hobbies include gardening, painting (watercolor), drawing, and playing guitar, ukulele and just started teaching myself banjo. StIll workIng on the banjo. Bought a vIolIn a couple weeks ago. I always wanted to learn to play, so why not!

I work as a paralegal in a law firm and am primarily using the left side of my brain (analytical), so on my own time I find it healthy to entertain the right side of my brain (creative).

I also enjoy a variety of outdoor activities (hiking, bicycling, camping, canoeing, whitewater rafting) even though some of my joints don't. An old skiing injury has been getting the upper hand lately.

I am smart, funny, and always learning.

Animals have always been a big part of my life. I lean towards cats (have one) because they are somewhat less demanding. I love dogs and have owned them in the past even though I am highly allergic. It takes a while for me to develop a tolerance to being around new cats or dogs.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Like I said, I work as a paralegal. I recently started working on my art again and wonder why I ever stopped. Being creative, whether it is with graphite, pigment or garden soil enriches the soul and keeps me sane.

Went to Spain by myself and spend 10 days in Barcelona. I soooo wish I could be back there now. Digital cameras are the best, otherwise I would have spent a fortune in film.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
listening to other people. I find myself caring more than is good for me. I'm also good at finding humor in just about any situation, even if it isn't appropriate or appreciated. I'm also a pretty decent cook. I also enjoy gardening and seem to be somewhat successful when nature cooperates. I participate in a weekly art group that is my therapy. My watercolor paintings and drawings are decent.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm quiet. I don't chatter endlessly and really have little tolerance for talking just to fill the time. I tend to keep my observations to myself, at least until I have assessed my audience.

I do like to read, I recently got a Nook and love it. Currently hooked on anything written by Ken Follett. Other recent books have been "Water for Elephants," "In the Company of the Courtesan.

Books that I have read and/or re-read: Amy Tan's books, Three Cups of Tea (and was sadly disappointed to learn it is likely a ruse), The Kite Runner, John Steinbeck, The End of Iraq (excellent assessment of the situation), The Fountainhead, Atlas Shrugged (not a Rand-head), Richard Dawkins' books, ...

I have an interest in current events and the state of the world.

I like thought-provoking movies, I'm a sucker for a good story and enjoy most genres other than horror. I'm not the squeamish type, but I don't like seeing people or animals being diced up.

Food-wise, I'm always up for trying something new. I like sushi, thai, indian, morrocan, korean, vietnamese, middle eastern, well you get the idea. I am endeavoring to eat healthy. While I am an omnivore, I often to eat a couple of meatless meals a day.

My music tastes are eclectic, but lately I'm drawn to jazz. A sampling from my IPod: Boz Scaggs (huge fan), Los Ojos de Brujo (fantastic!), David Sanborn, the Eagles, the Rippingtons, Miles Davis, Nat King Cole, Patsy Cline, the Pretenders, ELO, ....

New music likes: Gangstagrass (think theme to "Justified"), Gotan Project, Lady Gaga.

Recently, I have been creating my own music with a small group of friends. We get together and practice our ukuleles. We have performed at a few private events.

Podcasts I enjoy: Slate Daily, Dan Carlin's Common Sense & Hardcore History, NPR, PRI Selected Shorts, The Moth, This American Life,...
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
My cat, Marty; sunshine; curiosity; science; critical thinking; art; music.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Getting my mother's house ready for sale. I am seriously concerned about the world at large, politics, environment, and the incessant need people have to cause each other harm. Cruelty is not to be tolerated.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Painting, getting a garden project rolling for the weekend, practicing my music or kicking back with a movie.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Umm, I'm not good at exposing myself to an unknown audience (unless I have a musical instrument as my shield). If the reader and I become friends, I'll confide some secrets.

I like s dash of pepper in my oatmeal.
