Hey there! My name is Christian, and I like making people laugh and having long conversations. I'm very into storytelling, and I'm an avid writer. I'm looking to meet someone who enjoys the weirder things in life and doesn't mind me geeking out over whatever my latest obsession is from time to time.
What I’m doing with my life
I just graduated from SUNY New Paltz and am currently waiting on my diploma so I can start considering my options for further schooling. Recently, I've just been living in Albany, working full time at Whole Foods Market, and have spent most of my time reading and listening to audio books. And video games. Let us not forget the video games.
I’m really good at
I'm a skilled storyteller- I've had two short stories published in the New Yorker during my time at college, and I had a comedic short film that I made during college become a viral video around the New Paltz area.
I work best under pressure, and have a tendency to become scatterbrained when left completely to my own devices, so when someone approaches me and says something like "write a story about two people who meet in a diner, find out they have different favorite colors, and become locked in a fight to the death because of it," I'm all aboard, because they've basically already done all the thinking for me. I'll have a hilarious script about two people strangling each other over the pros and cons of burnt sienna on your desk by the end of the day. I tend to love being elaborate in that sense: The more convoluted I allow my writing to get, the better it becomes. Usually.
The first things people usually notice about me
This is a weird question. I have long hair which tends to fall into my eyes constantly.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I really enjoy post-modern, psychological, and transgressive fiction. Mostly anything that is done "differently" from the norm. I loved House of Leaves and The New York Trilogy, but I also recently finished catching up with George RR Martin's A Song Of Ice And Fire series, and I'm very impatiently awaiting the next installment.
The same goes for movies. My favorite writer of film of all time is Charlie Kauffman, with the film "Synechdoche, New York" being my favorite film of all time. My favorite actor is probably Phillip Seymore Hoffman. [UPDATE: Looking back, I wrote that sebntence before he died. :( Aw... I suppose my favorite still-living actor would be John C. Reilly.]
TV Shows: Six Feet Under, Arrested Development, Archer, Bob's Burgers, Chuck, Nathan For You, Jon Benjamin Has A Van, Check It Out with Doctor Steve Bruel, Game of Thrones, True Detective, and just getting into Veep right now.
I'm a big fan of Tally Hall and They Might Be Giants. I also love Stephen Merrit, and the Magnetic Fields. I've gotten into folk punk a bit, my favorite band in the genre definately being Ghost Mice, with Andrew Jackson Jihad being a close second.
I'm a good cook, but a bad cleaner. I love making food, but I desperately hate that end part where you have to clean up the mess you made.
The six things I could never do without
-I need my laptop. I have everything on this.
-I carry my 3ds with me wherever I go. It provides much needed distractions. I try to keep it hidden out of embarrassment, though.
-The Internet. It's where I spend the majority of my time.
-My bookshelf. I have a library of to-read material up there.
-Ron and Fez, my two radio heroes, and hosts of the Ron and Fez show on XM Sattelite Radio.
-Support from friends. I don't always get along the best with my family, but friends make everything I do worth it.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I think a lot about the future, and what it ultimately is that I
want to do in life. I definitely want to go through my life
entertaining people in one form or another, but that's more of a
career goal. On a personal level, I guess it could be said that in
the end, I am really interested in finding a person on the same
wavelength as me, with whom I can share my life experiences with.
To me, life is too amazing and enchanting to go through alone. The
best experiences are those that are shared between two people, who
can look at each other and understand the beauty in everything they
On a typical Friday night I am
honestly, it's probably gonna be HBO, Netflix, or Hulu. The holy trinity which guides us all.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
is that I tend to put others before myself when it comes to being
happy, and can end up screwing things over by not knowing when it's
time to quit.
