I am rational, analytical, and eccentric.

My Self-Summary

I'm as honest as they come. Having lived all over the country, I have a good appreciation for the differences between people. I'm very laid-back yet have opinions about most things, and if you understand the difference that's a good thing. I kick ass at Guitar Hero, and I'm a great listener and a natural teacher.

I like people, and what guides me in life is my belief that my way is no better than that of anyone else. I am a great storyteller when one comes to mind.

What I’m doing with my life

For work I design and build complex distributed software systems. Artificial intelligence, description logics, ontologies, and planning algorithms occupy my thoughts most of the day.

I get a lot of contentment from observing people and reading about a variety of things that interest me. Those things tend to be complex so my mind is engaged. For example I like economics, sociology, and anything psychology related. I am usually quite mellow and am content to relax on weekends.

I get a lot of fulfillment from being around nature and fierce weather. There is nothing that exhilarates me more than a good thunder storm or blizzard. As you can imagine, this means leaving the bay area occasionally.

I’m really good at

Writing software, understanding others, playing fake guitar, seeing things clearly, being patient, seeing the big picture, finding answers, being humble. I also seem to have the gift of being able to explain the complex in a way that is understandable.

The first things people usually notice about me

My head. After that I'm not really sure. Maybe my goatee. Maybe they notice that I am succinct with my words and that I have a very expressive face.

I have been told that I have very kind eyes.

People also notice that my sense of humor goes back and forth between the very intellectual and the incredibly crude and irreverent. It amuses me to wield both styles of verbage with equal deftness.

I am also not the type to talk about myself at length out of a need for assurance/praise. I am comfortable with who I am, and I would rather give others the chance to make their own discoveries and judgments.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I like industrial rock, 80's, most other rock, alternative, and anything with mood.

TV: Battlestar Galactica, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Robot Chicken, House, Boston Legal, History Channel, Star Trek, Conan O'Brien, Craig Ferguson

I like campy movies. Bad is good. I also like horror, sci-fi, and fantasy. Anything that fires the imagination or is psychological is usually good. Favorites include Tombstone, What Dreams May Come, The Lord of the Rings, and The Crow.

Favorite books include The Lord of the Rings, Watership Down, The Alchemist, Ender's Game, and anything by H.P. Lovecraft.

I love Indian food and Italian in particular, but I also love sushi and just about anything else. I'm not a picky eater.

The six things I could never do without

This one is difficult for me. I don't get attached to material possessions easily, so I'll go with the abstract:

character, love, personal responsibility, humility, honesty, idealism

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Big things. The difference between what people are trying to convey with their profiles and what their profiles really say about them. How much does the personality of your average 30-something vary between different geographic locations in the US? Is diving out of an airplane under carefully controlled conditions really a milestone on the way to living a meaningful life?

Following economics and politics is also a hobby of mine.

On a typical Friday night I am

Usually I spend Friday's at home unwinding from the week. I like to get up on Saturday mornings and talk with friends in the area at my local cafe.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

This question is causing a rip in the space-time continuum

You should message me if

You feel like it. You appreciate a man with strength, wisdom, humility, and the confidence to believe in himself. I value intelligence coupled with humility in a partner. A dry sense of humor is also a big plus as is an appreciation for B-movies.
