My self-summary
Hi there! I promise that I'm not surly, but I love to ride a Surly bike.

It feels strange just spilling paragraphs out into space. I'm much more an in-person-over-a-beer kind of guy. But here are my basics:

I'm a single dad, with two fantastic kids.
I have a job, it's a pretty good one, and I like it.
I believe in work hard, play hard.
I play kickball in a league. I used to play baseball.
I have a great Rhodesian Ridgeback and I spend about 2 hours a day hiking in the woods with her.

I'm new to the Albany area, so I'm looking to meet people. Maybe that could be you. That would be awesome.

I grew up on the East Coast, and I've lived in Colorado, California, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania. I really like upstate New York, though, so I think I'll stick here. :)

I co-parent with my ex, who's been my friend for 22 years. She's gay, I'm not, so our family is one of choice and commitment. This means it's also very low drama.

I'm the type of guy who does long-term relationships. I'm looking for someone to join my life with. I like a lot of different types of women, but women who are smart and ideally into sports really catch my eye.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm working to help people get solar power on their homes. I get to help people reduce their carbon footprint and save some money. The hours can be strange, but it's a great company and a great job.

When I'm not working, I'm spending time with the kids. I'm lucky enough to see them every day. It's pretty awesome.

I'm also learning my way around the area, trying to meet people and find out where all the cool kids hang out.
I’m really good at
Talking my way into, and out of, trouble. I'll admit that the mouth has a tendency to move way faster than the brain.
The first things people usually notice about me
I have no idea what people notice anymore, I'm hoping someone will tell me so I can put that here. I'd like to think it's my smile, because I'm almost always smiling. Serious isn't something I can often pull off, because I try to see the humor in every situation. Sometimes, I don't try, I just do. Then I find myself giggling for no reason. Maybe that's what they notice.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
My tastes in literature varies, although lately it's been mostly textbooks as I'm back in school....again. I do enjoy historical fiction.

My favorite movies are comedies, preferably from the golden age of comedic movies. Blazing Saddles, History of the World, Meaning of Life, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Rocky Horror.....the list goes on. But lately, I've not been much of a movie goer, nothing recently has caught my attention, and I find there is so much more to life than sitting in a dark room for hours.

I don't watch much tv, although baseball season is upon us soon, so I'll try to catch my beloved, (and rather disheartening) Mets as often as time allows. Of course, for 3 weeks in July, I do get sucked into Le Tour.

Music...I like a little of everything, although I lean towards Big Band, Rockabilly,Psychobilly, Jump Blues and a bit of metal thrown in for sport.

Food, I eat food. I like most foods, and I'll try anything.

Other stuff I'm into:

Sports: Mets, Giants, Rangers, the Cubs (because underdogs need support!)

Shows: Dr Who, How I Met Your Mother, Big Bang Theory, Daily Show

Movies: anything Mel Brooks, Star Wars, The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, Field of Dreams

Comedians (I am a HUGE stand-up comedy fan!): George Carlin, Bill Hicks, Lewis Black, old Eddie Murphy, Bob Saget
The six things I could never do without
Coffee, a bike (I have 3), a good book to read, learning, my family, a quality pair of shoes.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What's next......because I'm always looking forward.
On a typical Friday night I am
Either out or home. Depends if I have the kids or not. But no night is typical.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
At the holidays, my family often goes caroling singing "Walking Around in Women's Underwear." We're a special group.

Also, I'm terrified of spiders.
You should message me if
You should message me. :) That's a complete sentence.
