My self-summary
I'm a former engineer turned milliner/homemaker. I enjoy making things, board games, kayaking, hiking and new experiences.

My husband, bob_314159, and I are polyamorous - we have given each other consent to explore relationships with other people. This doesn't mean we are separated or heading for it; we are bonded for life.

I enjoy the company of interesting people from a variety of backgrounds, ethnicities, views, experiences and tastes. I have learned much from my companions over the years. Two of the most important are tolerance and the confidence to trust your friends.
What I’m doing with my life
Looking for better ways to live it.
I’m really good at
Making things! I do woodworking, fiber arts and a bit of metalworking. My work is mostly functional and somewhat artistic. I enjoy making costumes.

I'm told my cooking is rather good, but I am very self-critical in that arena and can't judge.

I've just started the drawing classes I've had on the list for decades. It's a challenge looking at the world with different eyes.

I'm a good listener and encourage friends to talk about their issues with me. I try to offer good advice and be a sounding board.

I'm good with knots and tents.

I just started taking karate... we'll see how long this lasts. The joy of starting new stuff is really thrilling. (Epilogue - it didn't last long.)
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm outgoing and like to make friends. I like being physically active and working with my hands. I enjoy the company of intelligent people.
I can laugh at myself. I often do. As loud as possible. I'm full of foibles.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Jane Austen's works, Hard SF (especially the golden-age short stories), really good classic mysteries and the occasional quick-read, fun bit of fluff. Histories. Speculative fiction.

Reading now: The Alienist by Caleb Carr. Theodore Rex by Edmund Morris. "The Girl who Whispered Beauty" by my friend Al Bogdan. And my next book club book is China Miéville's Perdido Street Station, and I'm really excited about it. I'm trying to get into "A Game of Thrones", but for some reason I'm stalled.

Movies: All time favorite tie: "Sense and Sensibility", Ang Lee version with Emma Thompson, "Twelfth Night", the Trevor Nunn version; The Fellowship of the Ring; and "Much Ado about Nothing", the Branagh version.

I loves me a costume drama (see above) but also a space opera - I'm a huge Trek fan and the original Star Wars, seen on my ninth birthday for the first time, was a giant influence on me. Classics - The Philadelphia Story, M, Some Like It Hot, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Dial M for Murder, Giant. The Seven Samurai. Never Been Kissed. High Noon. Buckaroo Banzai. Back to the Future, even, I admit it, the second one. The Hangover. I saw "Paul" a while ago and loved it. A friend's been introducing me to Bollywood, and the other day we saw Zindagi na milegi dobara (You only live life once)---I'm starting to get hooked.

Shows: I broke up with TV, but I'll always love Firefly. I was a big fan of Lost and BSG. Now about all I see new is Raising Hope. Just discovered Kingdom, with Stephen Fry, on the web. I was just reminded of Slings & Arrows - what a fantastic show. Doctor Who, old and new! Woot!

Music: Huge eclectic collection, leading the pack with rocky folk and folky rock. Eddie from Ohio. Great Big Sea. Steppin' in It.
String band music - Jazz - Classical - Local - World - Rock - Even by god Classic Rock. My husband is a gifted musician who plays out not enough. I have wide horizons.

Food - yes, please. Good food. I like food. I make decent food. I like spicy, garlicky, cheesy, vegetable-y, awesome local goodness. Fresh food. Grains. Nuts. I eat fish but not meat, with some small exceptions. This is for environmental, ethical, and health reasons. I am slowly reducing my dairy intake to come closer to a vegan diet. I am tolerant of anyone's eating style, as long as he/she isn't a picky, fussy eater.
The six things I could never do without
1. Bob
2. Food - good food.
3. Companionship of intelligent and interesting people.
4. Lip balm
5. Tools
6. A little bit of spare time.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How to make the world a better place.

How to efficiently use resources, both to make my lifestyle more frugal and to make the planet's resources reach more in need.

The connection of food sources to our plates.

Puzzles, challenging games and diversions.

How to make things I don't know how to make.
On a typical Friday night I am
At a book club or gaming party, playing games such as Dominion, Carcassone, Tsuro, Catan or Euchre.

Out with my geek friends at a movie or some other event.

Hangin' at home, knitting or surfing the Web.

Out to dinner or kayaking with Bob.

Walking Bucky.

Visiting my in-laws or my dad.

Camping or at our cabin.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I have recently started exploring polyamory. My dear husband and I have given each other consent to look for other possibilities. We are not breaking up and will be together forever.
I’m looking for
  • Guys who like girls
  • Ages 30–49
  • Near me
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating, activity partners
You should message me if
You find my profile compelling and are willing to get to know me better.

If you do message me, check your spelling. :)

If you are married or seriously committed, contact me only if you have your spouse/partner's wholehearted consent. I refuse to be a party to cheating in any degree.

**** I must put two disclaimers here: NOT looking for casual s*x or any sort of one-night arrangement or someone to be with my husband and I. Look elsewhere. Also, I am not a "cougar", so please don't open up conversation with "Do you like younger guys?" ****
