Books:
Jane
Austen's works,
Hard SF (especially the golden-age short
stories), really good classic
mysteries and the occasional
quick-read, fun bit of fluff.
Histories.
Speculative fiction.
Reading now: The Alienist by Caleb Carr. Theodore Rex by Edmund
Morris. "The Girl who Whispered Beauty" by my friend Al Bogdan. And
my next book club book is China Miéville's Perdido Street Station,
and I'm really excited about it. I'm trying to get into "A Game of
Thrones", but for some reason I'm stalled.
Movies: All time favorite tie: "Sense and Sensibility", Ang Lee
version with Emma Thompson, "Twelfth Night", the Trevor Nunn
version; The Fellowship of the Ring; and "Much Ado about Nothing",
the Branagh version.
I loves me a
costume drama (see above) but also
a space opera - I'm a huge Trek fan and the original Star Wars,
seen on my ninth birthday for the first time, was a giant influence
on me. Classics - The Philadelphia Story, M, Some Like It Hot,
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Dial M for Murder, Giant. The
Seven Samurai. Never Been Kissed. High Noon. Buckaroo Banzai. Back
to the Future, even, I admit it, the second one. The Hangover. I
saw "Paul" a while ago and loved it. A friend's been introducing me
to Bollywood, and the other day we saw Zindagi na milegi dobara
(You only live life once)---I'm starting to get hooked.
Shows: I broke up with TV, but I'll always love
Firefly. I was a big fan of Lost
and BSG. Now about all I see new is
Raising Hope. Just discovered
Kingdom, with Stephen Fry, on the web. I was just reminded of
Slings & Arrows - what a fantastic show. Doctor Who, old and
new! Woot!
Music: Huge eclectic collection, leading the pack with rocky folk
and folky rock.
Eddie from Ohio.
Great Big Sea.
Steppin' in
It.
String band music - Jazz - Classical - Local - World - Rock - Even
by god Classic Rock. My husband is a gifted musician who plays out
not enough. I have wide horizons.
Food - yes, please. Good food. I like food. I make decent food. I
like spicy, garlicky, cheesy, vegetable-y, awesome local goodness.
Fresh food. Grains. Nuts. I eat fish but not meat, with some small
exceptions. This is for environmental, ethical, and health reasons.
I am slowly reducing my dairy intake to come closer to a vegan
diet. I am tolerant of anyone's eating style, as long as he/she
isn't a picky, fussy eater.
