I am weird, mildly creepy, and totally awesome.
My Self-Summary
I'm basically awesome, which sounds really vain, but I like to
think of it as "self-esteem".
I have a VERY off-kilter sense of humor and employ sarcasm at
inopportune (and opportune!) moments in my daily life. So be
prepared, and take parts of this with a grain of salt.
STUFF I LIKE:
Grammar,
punctuation, and correct spelling
Industrial
music - specifically: Grendel, Nachtmahr, God Module,
iVardensphere, Memmaker, and Rotersand
"Indie"
music - I use quotes because most of these bands are signed to
major record labels, but still kind of fit into the "indie-rock"
genre: Death Cab for Cutie, Tegan and Sara, Brand New, Thrice,
Imogen Heap
Music in
general
BOOKS - I am a
shameless bibliophile. Reading makes my life complete.
Space - I am a HUGE
space nerd. Space is awesome. It's beautiful, it's enormous, it's
awe-inspiring. There's so much fucking incredible stuff out in the
universe, how can anyone not love space?
STUFF I DON'T LIKE
-War. Obviously, it's bad and stuff. But I disagree with even
supporting the troops. Go ahead and call me out for it. I can back
up my arguments. I will support peacekeepers, though. Afghanistan
is not a peacekeeping mission.
-Intolerance, ignorance, and general ass-hattery.
-Feminism. It's not about equality, it's about women dominating
men. We're all human, we're all equal. Can't we just accept
that?
-Inability to carry on a meaningful, decent conversation.
-Sports. Sorry, but I REALLY just don't care.
OTHER STUFF
I am VERY opinionated. I love music, listening to it, performing
it, dancing to it, playing air-guitar to it, etc. Being at concerts
is high among my favorite things to do. I live to read, and can
easily spend a day completely absorbed in a book. I am a cat
person, and have a snake (he's pretty sweet). I've recently taken
up painting, which isn't really painting so much as making cool
messes with paint that actually end up looking half-decent. I'm a
bleeding heart idealist, but I have some realistic views of the
world. They serve to show me what needs to be changed. I really
like creepy things, things that are weird, deviant, scary, or just
outside of the norm. Alternative lifestyle for the win!
This is pretty fragmented, but that's okay.
What I’m doing with my life
Currently, I'm working as a paper slave for an alarm system
company. It's not overly demanding work and I completely adore my
co-workers, so I really can't complain, and it lets me save up to
go back to school. Ideally, I would like to work for the UN,
focusing on international relations or development, but if that
doesn't happen, I'd like to spend my life in Africa, teaching sex
ed, specifically related to AIDS prevention/education or teaching
sex ed/womens studies in the Middle East. I'm kind of a bleeding
heart, so anything along the lines of activism and human rights is
something I intend to get into.
I’m really good at
Using sarcasm in uncomfortable situations, grammar and spelling,
being a band geek and telling retarded band geek jokes, being a
fount of useless information, and (to be cliche) listening.
The first things people usually notice about me
Hair colour, generally (hard not to when it's usually something
like pink or blue or green and purple). And I get a lot of
compliments on my eyes, and (strangely enough) my teeth. I guess
they're nice?
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Favorite books (warning: this is going to be a LONG list)
Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood
The Year of the Flood by Margaret Atwood
The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson
The Blood of Flowers by Anita Amirrezvani
The Black Jewels Trilogy by Ann Bishop
His Dark Materials Trilogy by Philip Pullman
American Gods by Neil Gaiman
Stardust by Neil Gaiman
Coraline by Neil Gaiman
The Sandman graphic novel series by Neil Gaiman (I read a lot of
Neil Gaiman)
The Gospel According to Biff, Christ`s Childhood Pal by Christopher
Moore
(Okay, that was actually a shorter list than I anticipated.)
Favorite music (aka, a giant list of bands I enjoy):
Alkaline Trio, AFI, Coheed and Cambria, Tegan and Sara, Death Cab
for Cutie, Thrice, Brand New, Imogen Heap, Nachtmahr, Grendel, God
Module, Rotersand, Icon of Coil, iVardensphere, Taking Back Sunday,
k.d. Lang, ENVY, The Used, Paramore, Silverstein, Blink-182
ALSO I really really fucking love Star Wars.
The six things I could never do without
Cell phone, iPod, clothing, books, my friends and family, and lip
balm.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
LOTS! Usually really random things that are confusing me, like
orbital gravity (I understand now!). I also think about what I've
been reading, the insanely random and pointless dreams I have,
space (specifically, nebulae and near-earth objects), and other
strange things.
I also ALWAYS have a song stuck in my head. Always. Sometimes it's
a good song, sometimes it's "She'll be Comin' Round the Mountain".
No joke.
On a typical Friday night I am
Working late, reading, or hanging out with my boys who are among my
best friends.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I really love Care Bears. And My Little Pony.
You should message me if
-You can carry on a conversation that is not about sports or cars.
I enjoy conversations where I learn things. Conversations about
physics, religion, politics, philosophy, and music are acceptable
topics.
-You have a sense of humor, especially one that is compatible with
mine (ie, sarcastic and dark).
-You can type a full sentence without using stupid abbreviations
like u, ur, ne, etc. Also, grammar and punctuation are important.
Everyone learned them in elementary school and had to employ them
throughout high school and any post-secondary, forgetting them is
not an excuse.
-You have similar tastes in music. This does not include a vast
majority of rap, 90% of anything played on the radio today,
Nickleback, Default, Theory of a Deadman or other so-called rock
bands, country, or techno. Industrial is not techno.
-You read.
-You are in possession of a doomsday robot and can survive a zombie
apocalypse. Proof of both is required.
