My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm Tyler. I kinda rule. Not everyone will agree with that, and that's OK, but I invite you to find out the truth. Sarcasm and self-deprication are pretty ingrained in the way I conduct myself, so be aware. Sometimes I confuse myself when I confuse other people, when the facetious or the fallacious comes out of my mouth. Bear with me, it'll all become clear very soon.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm working in the wonderful city of Portland. I majored in English back in Eugene, at the U of O, so naturally I'm in a field entirely unrelated to my academic persuits. I do insurance work. I wouldn't exactly call it my jam, but it pays the bills, while I while my time away with other things, outside of the workplace.

I'm business casual by day, all black everything by night and weekends and holidays if I can get away with it. Color me a hipster, or pretentious, or what have you, but I'm mostly just phobic of wearing visible branding. Can't put no propaganda on me.

Mostly, I read books, write some poetry (when I'm courting the muse with enough skill or drunken bravado to get her to come over), and hanging out with friends; doing board/table top/drinking games, or visiting the bars I enjoy in SE Portland, and perhaps beyond.

I'm talking high and low art, great and trivial literature (mostly great), and endlessly discussing hypotheticals with friends over pints and cocktails (pints for me, cocktails for them). I'd love to do the same with you.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Not sleeping. Or, I guess you could say I'm really bad at sleeping. I can bullshit like no one else. Building an aura of scholarly knowledge with little or no actual expertise is one of my major skills. I mean, come on, I'm a liberal arts graduate.
I'd like to think that I'm moderately ok at writing poetry. I'm certainly good at enjoying writing poetry.
Reading out loud. Seriously, I wish there had been a major for that.
Knowing/spouting random trivia.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
The most common thing total strangers used to say to me was "has anyone ever told you that you look like Harry Potter?" They rarely seemed surprised when I replied "yes."

But now that I've switched out the circular specs for a sleeker pair, and grew some facial hair, I rarely get mistaken for a being wizard (unless I'm wearing my ceremonial robes). So I dunno. Maybe I just look like me?

Excellent TV shows! ADVENTURE TIME!!! TODD AND THE BOOK OF PURE EVIL, Dexter, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, The Wire, The Avengers (the animates series; it's seriously good), 30 Rock, and maybe others (???)

Novelists: Ken Kesey, Gabrielle Garcia Marquez, Joseph Heller, Mikhail Bolgokov, Virginia Woolf, Albert Camus, Jose Saramago, Earnest Hemingway, Vladimir Nabokov, James Joyce, Isabel Allende, Cormac McCarthy, Thomas Pynchon, Don Delillo! many others

Comics: Sandman series-Neil Gaiman; Ultimates,Ultimates 2 Kick-Ass, Ultimate X-Men, Wanted, Civil War and most other stuff by Mark Millar; Ultimate Spiderman, New Avengers, House of M, Dark Avengers, Dark Reign, Seige, and other stuff by Brian Michael Bendis, Sin City, Frank Miller, X-Men and Iron Fist by Brubaker, and my favorite comic of all time Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-men (if you like anything by Whedon, then you will love Astonishing), too many others to list

Poets: Sylvia Plath, Elizabeth Bishop, Larry Levis, William Carlos Williams, T.S. Eliot, John Berryman, Donald Justice, Louise Gluck, Anthony Hecht, John Ashberry, others

Music: I now tend more towards alternative rock, indie stuff, you know, general hipster fodder; my current playlist includes: The National, TV On The Radio, Joanna Newsom, Vampire Weekend, Radio Head, Portishead, Metric, The Hold Steady, Amanda Palmer, M.I.A., Okkervil River, Elvis Costello, Cat Power, The Arcade Fire, Spoon, Why, Aimee Mann, Kanye West, Grizzly Bear, Bon Iver, Sleater Kinney, Dirty Projectors, LCD Soundsystem, Metric The New Pornographers, Wild Flag, The Beatles, PJ Harvey, Cults, The Rolling Stones, Vampire Weekend, The Pixies, etc.

Movies:(just a sampling): Pineapple Express, Knocked Up, Casablanca (which I saw right after Pineapple Express), The Pink Panther Returns, Iron Man, The Dark Night, No Country For Old Men, Sexy Beast, Ichi the Killer, The Big Lebowski, Lost Highway, Mullholland Dr., Audition, Kicking and Screaming, The Royal Tennenbaums, Rushmore, The Life Aquatic, The Fantastic Mr. Fox, many others.

Food: BEER. I truly love beer, the more hops, the better. Generally IPAs satisfy my beer cravings, Ninkasi's Total Domination, Terminal Gravity's IPA, and others, but I'm always willing to try new beers.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
friends, love, beer, my stereo, choice parts of the internet, good books/poetry
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Mostly poetry stuff, inane comic book trivia, and what everyone happens to be up to.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Hangin' out with friends, almost certainly drinking or other party related activities, though I really only like small get-togethers, party-ettes as it were.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I dunno man, I haven't even MET you yet. I can lick my elbows? That's pretty wierd, but I'll show anyone that trick, so probably not private enough.

Hmmm.

I tend to avoid hard alcohol and mixed drinks these days. I have some stories that illustrate why pretty well; you could probably coax them out of me, if you asked.

And to get right down to it: I play some table-top RPGs. It's fun, but I also take it seriously as an opportunity to engage in creative collaborative storytelling and improvisation. Also, it's fun. But I stop well ahead of LARPing, or anything of that nature. My nerdiness has its limits.

You're not a computer program trying to trick me. If I sound like fun, if you want a friend, if you want someone to talk to, if you're cool, even if you don't think you're cool, I'll probably still talk to you.
