Orwell's Looking back on the Spanish War, for a great attack on apathy, censorship and hypocrisy. If you've read 1984, read it again after having read this- very illuminating.
Asimov's The Relativity of Wrong, for the best description of the scientific method I've ever read.
And Sartre's Existentialism and Humanism, for a brilliant outline of his philosophy. I live my life by this, basically. It's incredibly liberating.

I used to be really into post-rock, then I discovered Do Make Say Think and felt they'd basically finished that genre. Absolutely sublime. I do have a favourite band, and it is them. Well into Sufjan Stephens, I think he's a genius songwriter, very innovative but always very simple. Elbow are great, beautiful vocals, beautiful lyrics. And Radiohead, of course.
