I am passionate, sarcastic, and random.

My Self-Summary

Oh, how I suck at filling these out. Much better at answering direct questions than just randomly talking. In general I'm a laid back person who you are more likely to find at a coffee shop, bookstore, or park than a club or bar. When I first meet people, I tend to be pretty reserved and shy but as I warm up, people quickly learn I'm a total goofball. I definitely enjoy serious conversations about progressive politics (esp. gender politics) but random silliness holds an equally special place in my heart.

What I’m doing with my life

Working for now at nonprofit in the city, wearing multiple hats (research, programs, communications). I plan on returning to academia in a few years. But for now I'm just concentrating on getting the hang of life (specifically, life in Brooklyn).

I’m really good at

laughing before the punchline, laughing at myself, being there for my friends

The first things people usually notice about me

such a subjective question (and really, doesn't it tell you more about the person noticing you than about yourself?). The most common things folks comment on when first getting to know me is my height and my laugh

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: well, I just finished Kite Runner and am adding that to my list of fav page turners (that list also includes Stone Butch Blues, Gone with the Wind, the God of Small Things, Middlesex). I've been really into anthologies of personal narratives lately, especially when they represent communities I'm trying to learn more about. And nothing beats a good memoir in my opinion.

Movies: depends on my mood. If I'm in the mood for something silly I tend to go for chick flicks (Sandra Bullock is a fav). If I want something more exciting, I may grab a comic book type movie (I'm a huge Batman fan). But I also love movies that leaving you going "huh?" at the end. like Donnie Darko and Muholland Drive. oh, and this list wouldn't be complete without mentioning my slight vampire movie obsession.

Music: Modest Mouse, Joan Jett, India Arie, Ani DiFranco, Scissor Sisters, Phish, Dresden Dolls, Shiny Toy Guns

Food: Thai, Indian, Coffee

The six things I could never do without

Daily basis: chapstick, metro card, water bottle, map, phone, gum

in life: my family, fabulous friends, a space where I can feel totally comfortable and unjudged, green space, purpose

I spend a lot of time thinking about

the absurdity of life (in a good way), how lucky I am to be surrounded by amazing people, how I can be a better person, where I fit in this world

On a typical Friday night I am

I tend to have chill Friday nights, hanging out in my apartment, watching a good movie and eating good food

You should message me if

you're looking for someone to have conversations and explore the city with.
