My self-summary
Has anyone, in the course of history, ever encountered the phrase "self-summary" and thought "hm, describing everything about myself in a few lines, what could be easier?" Because, if so, I am not one of those people.

Basically, I'm a graduate student (political science) and am also a pretty big nerd. I love sci-fi and fantasy. The combination of the two means that I spend a lot of time reading about either (a) lobbying or (b) aliens. My bookshelf probably looks a little weird to most people.

Beyond that? I love feminist critiques. I also love cats. I can be socially awkward, but I also like to think that I'm a good listener and a pretty non-judgmental person. I can be slow to respond to messages, but if you write more than one line, I'll probably respond.
What I’m doing with my life
Well, grad school = lots of school in my future.

I'm also really into fitness. I'd like to run a half-marathon sometime soon, and do a triathalon before I graduate.
I’m really good at
making obscure jokes
The first things people usually notice about me
is probably that I'm pretty short. At 5'2", I tend not to be asked to stand in the back of group photos.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: the Discworld series, anything by Kurt Vonnegut, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Good Omens. I am currently working my way through A Song of Ice and Fire, and am loving it. I might talk your ears off about Westeros if you let me. I'm trying to read more by Margaret Atwood (I loved the Blind Assassin)

Movies: Full confession -- I love movies and love seeing movies multiple times. I loved the Star Trek reboot, saw the Lord of the Rings movies about a million times when they were in theaters, and will probably be on an Avengers kick as long as Marvel keeps making the movies. I also love basically everything from Pixar and almost anything from Disney. Lilo and Stitch is one of my favorites.

Shows: Doctor Who, Supernatural, Sherlock. If you know who Steven Moffat is and have a strong opinion about him, we will probably get along.

Music: There's really two broad categories of music I listen to: more of the soft rock/indie type acts (like Arcade Fire, Mumford & Sons, Florence + the Machine) and then classic rock (Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC)

Food: I love everything that doesn't have cilantro! I am actually trying to learn how to cook now, so this is definitely a category where I'm always interested in finding/learning new things.
The six things I could never do without
1. My friends.
2. Internet.
3. Any kind of mental stimulation - I love finding out new things.
4. Some way of contacting my family. I'm not always with them, but I can't forget them!
5. Variety in my life
6. I think the first five things pretty much summarize everything, so let's go with something that's both necessary and a cop-out: a habitat that can sustain life?
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Income inequality, what I'm going to eat next, portrayals of women and minorities in popular media, if I left the lights on in my apartment

Not necessarily in that order
On a typical Friday night I am
Spending some time watching TV and then chilling with a friend. I prefer a laid-back approach to the weekend.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I cry at movies, and I really cried during the last Harry Potter movie.
I’m looking for

You should message me if
- You're looking for friends: we've got interests in common or just think we could have interesting conversations

- You're looking to date: you're single and monogamous (polyamory is great for a lot of people, but I'm not one of them)
