My self-summary
I'm a gentle person with a kind heart. I often am cast in the capacity of a counselor to people in trouble or a caring friend, but I get much more out of relationships than I put in. Maybe this is so because I have been blessed with such great friends. Being articulate, I often work with words, either writing (I'm writing my first novel), public speaking, telephone work. I worked in radio for ten years in Alaska and Oregon writing and producing news. Of late I've been teaching and writing and preaching in my church, Oasis Christian Center Seventh-day Adventist Church and this sustains me when my jobs are mundane. I write poetry, love music, live theater and have a relationship with God that permeates the center of everything I do well. I'm an avid reader, love movieson the big screen, coffee with cream, experiences more than things. I own very little and care much.

I am warm, articulate, and open

What I’m doing with my life
I spend my time teaching adult Bible study classes and preaching and cooking breakfast for the community at my church in Vancouver. I write poetry.I meet and critique with a writer's group in Portland, Outrageous Fiction. I'm halfway through a novel. I like living on the edge of becoming, seek authenticity at all times, even when it's impractical. Love the rhythm of words. Immerse myself in sounds. Have great friends and solid relationships, but looking for the one friend who will become more.

I’m really good at
Communicating either with words or touch, counseling people through hard times, staying optimistic and centered when the hard times are my own. Used to be good at kissing but then I got bells palsy. I have yet to determine if my kiss still works. Let me know if you're interested in testing this out. Writing is something that has never let me down. Communicating who I am has always been difficult, but writing makes it all seem easy.

Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: The Raggamuffin Gospel, Abba's Child both by Brennan Manning, All the Harry Potter books and movies, whodunnits by Jonathon Kellerman, Michael Connally, Cathy Reichs; Poetry by Gerard Manley Hopkins, e. e. cummings, others. Loved Kesey, especially Sometimes a Great Notion,( the dog coming home after being bitten by a copperhead...moon moons. Sometime I'll tell you the story about accidentally insulting Kesey and Sissy Spacek at the Pendleton Roundup) Artwork by Lucien Freud, Sir Stanley Spencer, Arthur Szyk, but not his political stuff Movies; LA Confidential, American Beauty, The Usual Suspects, Blade Runner, McCabe and Mrs. Miller, Harold and Maude, Magnolia (thought it was overlong, but loved Tom Cruise's talk to his braindead father, and then came the frogs and I fell in love with the movie. Seymore Hoffman was wonderful in it too.) Iron GiantI love music from many genres: Alternative, Rock, Christian Alternative, especially Switchfoot, . Still hung up on Hot Tuna, Airplane, Dead and Leonard Cohenfrom the 60's. Would love to be Suzanne, but instead became a Sister of Mercy. Grew up on classics and romance-era music, but I like earlier stuff like Baroque (If it ain't baroque, don't fix it) and even Chants and Plainsongs. Like a lot of Jazz, but don't know artists by name. Enjoy Jazzgrass and Dawg music. Really like Swing and Blues. Actually saw Led Zep do Stairway to Heaven and the Battle of Evermore live in 1971. Saw Blind Faith that same year. Food? Food is good, especially Thai, Indian, good ole Amercun

I spend a lot of time thinking about
Sex and my relationship to it, Jesus and my relationship to him, my daughters and grandkids and my relationships with them. Friends. Food. The earth made new. Getting a job that is not brain numbing and debasing. I do not think about houses, clothes, acquiring things. I do not have a closet full of shoes.
