My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm so utterly amazing that words could not describe me. Next time you see me, simply stare into the profound depths of my soul and find your answers, whether it be that I'm a total dork, or so incredibly stupid that my intellectual ineptitude is only bound by the definition of stupidity, all while my eyes glaze over at the mere thought of the meaning of life.

No, seriously, I'm a nerd. Basically, I can geek out with the bros *brofists*, and hang with the hoes. I'm also a feminist, so please don't EVER call me your hoe... unless it's kinky and involved gardening tools.

I identify less as bisexual than I do as pansexual/polysexual and queer. I also have friends who I frequently nerd out with regarding all manner of things, including internet memes, social justice issues, sports, politics, girly self-affirmational truisms about life, and crude but brilliantly nerdy topics.

As whimsical of a personality as I am, queer, social justice, and anti-oppression activism are important part of who I am, as are queer people of colour communities.

I enjoy deliberately analysing and reconstructing things (mostly different approaches to social issues) a lot. As a result, I also find myself reflecting on my own values and ways of being in the world often.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I was previously working part-time while completing the Nursing (BSN) program at Langara College. Currently I am completing my Bachelor's of Social Work at UBC. In between all that, I traveled, and lived in New York with my partner for about 5 months where I learned to appreciate all things football-related and the mystique of American exceptionalism (they take that shit seriously down there).

Before all that, I drifted between SFU and Langara while sorting out, uh... personal stuff. The rest of the time I'm either hanging with my friends, organizing in social justice communities, or staying cooped up in my room and becoming one with the internet. Still, I like to devote time exploring myself, my social environments and my relationships in them. If it's fun and ethical, my life's bound to take me there someday.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Being occasionally inarticulate, and unintentionally funny and cutesy despite my eclectic academic background and enjoyment I get from debating within a wide spectrum of discourses. Hey, at least saying it this way I don't come off sounding like a total douche... right??

Being an armchair athlete, and a darn good one. Seriously, I possess more esoteric knowledge regarding a large variety of sports than most guys.

Being an armchair academic (because as much as I enjoy plowing into philosophy and research, I'm too broken to write papers for the rest of my life).

Reflecting on my intersectional queer politics.

Being awkwardly self-conscious while trying not to appear awkward and self-conscious.

Being occasionally self-confident and brotastic.

Dancing with myself.

Spacing out and daydreaming.

Conjuring things up that could be seen as witty and ironic.

Being picky about what I consider to be good craft beer while awkwardly trying not to be condescending about it.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
My hair, and even though I live in Vancouver where 30% of the population is Asian, the fact that I'm Asian.

For something less superficial, the fact that I am not a fan of men talking over women, or solely to other men. I call that shit out all day.

Books - Anything NOT by Ayn Rand. 'Objectivism' gets a disdainful, titanic shrug outta me, even though I do understand the empowering appeal of the self-reliant, individualistic discourse.

Various feminist and social theory literature. Mostly from the likes of bell hooks, Patricia Hill Collins, Michel Foucault, and Paulo Freire.

Nineteen Eighty-Four.

I should read a lot more considering how much I love reading, but I never got into the habit of picking up novels.

Movies - Pan's Labyrinth, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Miyazaki films - particularly Princess Mononoke and Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Persepolis, Slumdog Millionaire, Total Recall, Brokeback Mountain, Rent, Juno, There Will Be Blood, A Beautiful Mind, Looper, The Fifth Element, As Good As It Gets, Inception, The Shawshank Redemption, The Matrix, Star Trek, Shortbus, American Beauty, American Psycho, American History X, Superbad, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Amélie, Trainspotting, Star Wars IV - VI, The Avengers, X-Men - First Class, most Pixar films - particularly Ratatouille, Toy Story 3, Wall-E, and Up, Gravity, Seven Years a Slave, Her, How to Survive a Plague.

Food - My days frequently revolve around this. Favourite staples of the Tara diet include steak, pho, ramen, pasta, and sushi. I will eat anything, as long as it's made well. I've become a bit of a snob about pizza after having lived in New York, and I also know my Chinese food enough to understand that few places in North America compare in quality to Chinese food here in Vancouver. Really though, Chinese food is always great when you're drunk. I'll eat at any hole in the wall without a peep unless someone starts chiming up about how amazing their unseasoned, poorly made hipster appropriation of Asian food is. Or start talking up Pizza Hut as if it's anything more than a dressed up cardboard stuffed with cheese dispensary.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
My computer
Community and friendship
Truth and personal growth
Good food
Good music
Fun, dirty and intelligent conversations
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Gender, race, identity, politics, power relations, decolonization, community activism, and other social worky things.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Looking to hang out and have a few beers with friends, or conversely being a total homebody. Truly, I would head out to just about any corner of the GVRD on transit if there is promise of fun and debauchery.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm a trans woman. I'm pretty open about that fact even if I can 'get away' with not having to be due to passing privilege. Hey~ It's like having a question worth a million points plastered right on my profile, right? Saves me and everyone else the trouble.

you liked my profile

you identify as queer or trans

you are a fellow female self-identified nerd. I guess male nerds are okay too *says it dismissively with a hand wave*

you think we could make a good, too-good-for-everyone-else dork couple, albeit a platonic one because I AM CURRENTLY TAKEN. Yes, that's right. Christ guys, stop asking me out with lewd messages fawning over my supposed cuteness, or thinking that I somehow must be 'special' or even desperate because I'm trans.

you just want someone to chat with and possibly be friends with (like, totally do message me if you think you'd enjoy hanging out with me. One cannot have too many friends. Just don't be offended if I'm not texting you every week to hang out. We'll likely run into each other if you're in anyway involved in queer communities

you don't believe feminists are crazy man-hating lesbians

you don't mind engaging in intellectual discussions or even simple banter with someone who may oh so sporadically enter a head space where she confusingly spews recycled intersectional social theories

you don't mind quirkiness, me blurting random things out, and getting excited about something seemingly out of nowhere

you sincerely want to get to know me as a person, and am not just looking for a fling with 'an exotic Asian tranny'. Like seriously, I can't believe you people exist
