My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I love this space. Sum up my personality in a small white space? Here goes: I'm an extremely happy person and I love to laugh more than anything. I think this comes from the mixture of extreme highs and lows I've faced over the previous few years. Everything I've experienced has given me a wide and generally upbeat perspective on life. If you can make me laugh and aren't afraid to share interesting stories, I think we'll get along.

I love what I do. I'm a PhD student who studies the evolutionary biology and biogeography of African songbirds. I work a lot right now, maybe too hard, but would be willing to make time for someone interesting.

I love to travel. I'm actually typing this message while swinging in a hammock near the beach in Lima, Peru. I'm relaxing after two weeks in the Amazon and a week in the Andes. I'm a clean shaven type of guy, so if i look unshaven they're probably travel photos. It would be fantastic to have someone special to see the world with.

I love my cat. Seriously, she's like my furry little daughter.

I love food. Especially ethnic food with an emphasis on things I've never tried.

I will try anything once. Even if I'm a little nervous to try. Life is too short for regrets.

I birdwatch. If you don't know what that is or ask me how I keep score we probably won't get along. I bird practically everywhere I go, so if you ask me to go on a walk you may only get 80% of my attention. I will sometimes randomly throw on the brakes to see what's soaring over the highway. I have a top ten list of birds on various continents I'm trying to complete, so if you're interested in all that, we may have something to talk about.

Randomly: I love Bob Ross, Cadbury Cream Eggs, swimming in rivers, introducing myself to locals, baseball, learning, Coca-Cola, beaches, churros, making people laugh, buying gifts for people who aren't expecting it, that just showered feeling after running, a recipe that comes out better than I possibly hoped and that moment when the plane lands and I can relax.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
PhD student with aims at academics, curating in a museum or being a professional bird tour guide. But probably academics.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Anything I put my mind to. Is that bragging? Feels like bragging. I have the intelligence and stubbornness to do whatever I want generally. But then most people have that inside them.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
My eyes or my smile I suppose. Definitely not my muscles, because I don't have them. Unless the brain is a muscle (it's not...)
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Music: The Black Keys, Deer Tick, Of Monsters and Men, My Morning Jacket, Arcade Fire, Band of Horses, The Lumineers, Trampled by Turtles, AWOLNATION, Beirut, Wilco, Blind Pilot, Local Natives, Metric, The New Pornographers, The Shins, Sun Kil Moon, Thao, Kurt Vile, Phantogram, Alt-J, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Is that a long enough list?

Books: I'll read anything. Robert Heinlein, Hugh Howey, Game of Thrones, Sean B. Carrol, Richard Dawkins, Justin Cronin, Cormac McCarthy, Calvino, Faulkner, Hemingway, Dostoevsky, I'm always open to recommendations.

Movies: kind of a junky. Anything with Daniel Day Lewis. Anything directed by Nolan, Coen Brothers, Abrams. Too many to list. One confession is that I love popcorn action flicks with or without plot.

Shows: I don't watch a lot of tv. I do like the Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Dr. Who and Sherlock.

Food: I'll try anything. I cook some mean Indian and make great guacamole. I'm really into cooking for people. I hate raw tomatoes though and barely tolerate raw cucumber.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
1. My cat Mia.
2. Books
3. Dessert
4. ESPN
5. Nature
6. Movie popcorn
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Science and my future. Also where I want to travel next.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Probably either in the lab if things are hectic or at graduate happy hour visiting with friends.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Eh. Ask me privately and I'll admit to most things.

Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
If you want to? There's no pressure if you send me a message. Chatting can be fun and maybe it will go somewhere...maybe it won't. I mean, that's why we're on here, right?
