I'm a post Grad student who also works in finance, with a vast
array of interests, so the idea of a self-summary seems daunting to
say the least. I love travelling, cooking, teaching, reading, and
studying the stars; astrophysics is my thing. I'm new to all this
jazz, so shoot me a message and we'll see where it goes.
What I’m doing with my life
Ph.D or bust.
I’m really good at
This is like when they ask you to name "your greatest weakness" in
a job interview. Everybody eventually says, "oh I'm too focused on
details," or "I find that I take a leadership role without being
It's hard to say what I'm really good at. I've got a pretty present
sense of humour and whit is extremely important, so I expect that
out of the wonderful people in my life.
Languages, I have a passion for languages, and random facts. But
not in the overwhelming, "did you know" way. More in the
good-for-a-pub-trivia-team kinda way.
The first things people usually notice about me
Usually my height and my whit. I consider myself well spoken and
funny, and hopefully so do others :/
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I adore Music. Music in all forms. Live concerts, Music festivals,
private shows, any kind. I couldn't imagine the best parts of my
life without the music that made it even better.
Films are a bit dicey. My favourite movie is one which most people
find bizarre. It's the Silence of the Lambs. I don't know what it
is but it has the perfect mix of suspense, drama, romance, and just
plain old horror. Others which rank high include Inglorious
Basterds, Shame, Waking Life, L'Invasions Barbare, The Godfather,
Virgin Suicides, Motorcycle Diaries, Y Tu Mama Tambien. So many
Zadie Smith's White Teeth definitely qualifies as my favourite
book, but there are a million more. Faulkner, Fitzgerald, V.S.
Naipaul, Holingshead, Rand (not for the philosophy), Bronte (Emily,
not Charlotte), and Hawking are amongst my top buys. The list keeps
growing with each recommendation
I love to cook and consider myself a pretty good cook. My tastes
span the countries that I've been lucky enough to call home. Food
has always been a big part of my cultural life, and I consider
myself a bit of a foodie. I can't stand food snobbery though, it's
an insult to good cuisine.
The six things I could never do without
My music, daily updates from the BBC, good wine, those I love.
There, didn't even need six.
On a typical Friday night I am
Depends, could be at the bar with some friends, at home finishing
up some work, or just unwinding from a long week. Whatever's going
on, I'm in.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I hate clowns. Plain and simple they creep me the hell out. There,
I said it.
