My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Part mad scientist, part wizard. I'm very laid-back and easy going, with an exuberance for gizmos, gadgetry, and all manner of silliness.

I moved to Oregon from Hawaii several years ago. Everyone thinks I'm crazy for leaving, but to be honest I really prefer being here in the northwest (I do miss the food, however). Having weather other than hot and humid is a very welcome change, not to mention there are so many more interesting things to do here.

I can be a little quiet at first around people I don't know (typical introvert), but I warm up very quickly.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I've been working for the state as a Network Engineer / Security Analyst (I work on firewalls and such things, which pretty much run on black magic) for going on 6 years now. I'm considering pursuing some advanced certifications, and seeing where that takes me.

In my spare time, I'm a bit of a board game enthusiast. About a year ago, a friend and I decided to check out a weekly board game group on a whim, and were instantly hooked. Since then, I've amassed quite the collection of fun, interesting games, and am always looking forward to having a fun group of people to play with each week.

Whenever the weather is nice, I have a few R/C Helicopters that I like to fly down at some of the local parks. I've finally managed to get my hands on a not-terrible helicopter, so I'm looking forward to getting it up in the air. Some day, I'd like to be good enough to do neat tricks like this:

You can also find me in the kitchen pretty regularly, doing some delicious science. I love finding interesting things to cook, or just trying to re-create some amazing dishes that I've had at some of the spots up in Portland. I'm constantly finding new recipes to experiment with, and love trying out new ingredients. Lately, this has become something of a game of "what haven't I tried cooking with yet?" Here are some of the things I've made recently:
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Cooking: If it sounds good enough, I will figure out how to make it (and it will be delicious). I have a few friends that are always throwing recipes at me, asking me to make things for them.

Coming up with winning strategies for board games: I'm usually tagged as being "tricksy", in that I often end up winning out of nowhere thanks to a few crucial last-minute plays (of course, sometimes this backfires and I fail in spectacular fashion). My friend that tags along to board game night with me has taken to playing specifically to make me lose. Doesn't always work, and I enjoy the added challenge.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I usually get "Wow, you're so tall! Must be nice."

What they don't realize is that I've lost many a battle with low-hanging light fixtures. =\
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books: I'm a huge fantasy / sci-fi enthusiast. It's the genre that really got me hooked on reading when I was younger (starting with The Hobbit), and I like having a fascinating story to really delve into.

The Book of Atrus, The Hobbit, Wizards First Rule, Snow Crash, World War Z, The Blade Itself.

Movies: Seeing a movie is one of my favorite things to go do on a weekend. I love just about any kind of movie, and I'm a sucker for great cinematography.

The Shawshank Redemption, Inception, Braveheart, Dances with Wolves, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, District 9, Pan's Labyrinth, The Avengers, Monty Python and the Search for the Holy Grail.

Shows: I don't actually have cable, so I'm stuck with whatever I can find on Amazon Prime (no Netflix either. I should remedy that situation).

Firefly, Sherlock (BBC), Grimm, Parks & Rec, Leverage, Numb3rs, The Big Bang Theory, The I.T. Crowd, Battlestar Galactica.

Music: Former musician here, so music is extremely important to me. I like a variety of genres, and am always on the hunt for new artists to listen to on my way to/from work.

Phoria, Caravan Palace, Chronic Future, Corelia, Gojira, Lindsey Stirling, Alestorm, Shaimus, Theory of a Deadman, Planetoid, Jamie's Elsewhere, Kamelot, Ronald Jenkees, Blue Stahli, Bullet for my Valentine, Buckethead, and the list goes on...

Food: ALL the foods! Seriously, I'll try just about anything. I love things like mexican, greek, german, etc. But my most recent favorite by far is Moroccan. I grew up in Hawaii, so I've got a bit of a soft spot for Hawaiian food as well.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Music: It's what makes me look forward to the long drive to/from work each day

Technology: My job revolves around it, but it's also nice having that link to the world in your pocket for all of those times when you think "I'd like to know more about X right at this particular moment".

Good food: Having new recipes to try, and getting to cook amazing things for other people are some of the things I enjoy most.

Amazing stories: Mostly in the form of books. Sometimes it's nice to lose yourself in another world for a while.

My car: Having the freedom to go where I want, when I want.

My cat: Kitty doesn't care whether you've had a bad day or not, he just wants his cuddles.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
New recipes I'd like to try, and what I need to remember to pick up at the store the next time I'm there (I always forget something. Always).

Wondering if the latest book in one of my series has come out yet. Also, looking forward to my next trip to Powell's while simultaneously dreading having to haul back more books than I can carry (that's a very dangerous store).

If there are any upcoming concerts I need to check out.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Getting together with friends to have a few drinks, unwind, and play some board games. Sometimes just relaxing on the couch while engrossed in the latest book I'm reading.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
For the life of me, I can't figure out how to whistle consistently. Always takes a few tries to figure it out.
