My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
NOTE: I'LL BE OUT OF TOWN THROUGH THE FIRST WEEK OF AUGUST.
I'm a southern man who can put on a Virginia Foghorn Leghorn accent or make it sound like a Tennessee banjo. I enjoy slapstick and serious. I am a teacher, bicyclist, writer, reader, bird watcher, better-than-average pool player and not better-than-average chess player. Oh, and I have been exploring open relationships for the last 2 years.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm learning to be a storyteller and telling my tales at local venues. Exploring on my new bicycle. Thinking. Writing (this is my thorn and passion). Planning lessons. Fixing stuff. Yardwork. Dishes. Cooking. I'm a teacher and love my summers off. I'm a sometimes birder and recently checked off my life list in Sibley's guide which makes knowing if I've seen something much easier than flipping through my birding journal every time I can't remember if I've seen a dark-eyed junco. So you can see there is an element of nerd to me. I recently joined a climbing gym and I am enjoying challenging myself at bouldering.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
juggling, dancing, making faces and voices. I can stand on my hands! I am good at most sports. I'm good at being truthful but still learning how to be diplomatic. I'm good at being on time and learning to be late when it doesn't matter.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
People also often think I am someone else. Once when I was wearing some amber shades someone thought I was Peter Fonda.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

My favorite book a few years ago was Suburban Safari, A Year on the Lawn, about a woman who spent a year studying the ecology of her back yard. I'm in a book group and enjoy hifalootin discussions. Just finished reading the 10th of December by George Saunders, a collection of short stories. Kind of freaky but wonderful.
Some books that impacted me early in my life and what they helped me with:
The Sleep Book--Dr. Suess (sleep)
Manchild in the Promised Land--Claude Brown (acting tough can get you through some hard times)
The World According to Garp--John Irving (love and desire is a beautiful thing)
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance--Robert Pirsig (pay attention to things and get lost in them)
Crime and Punishment--Fyodor Dostoyevsky (don't trip)
Breathing Lessons--Ann Tyler (exactly that and have compassion for yourself)
Galapagos--Kurt Vonnegut (a large brain isn't always a great thing)
That takes me up to my early 20s. Don't want to get exhausted here with an exhaustive list.

I like most art forms including theatre, dance ...movies. I'm not into gore although I liked the series Breaking Bad which has it's share. I like comedy and will put up with a few groans for a good laugh. (Carol Burnett is a personal hero.) I've become more of an information sponge and watch a lot of documentaries and profiles on PBS. I like Film Noir and old movies. Barbara Stanwyck rocks. Recently I've gotten' hooked on Doctor Who (post 2005).

Food--I love it. All kinds. I tend to eat what my body tells me I need. Love meat, but like less of it in my diet. I sometimes eat junk food but try and eat healthy and buy sustainable products.

I like all kinds of music. Back in Black to Almost Blue. Sonny Rollins, Commander Cody, Jack Johnson, Phoebe Snow. Some favorite albums are Metropolis, Innervisions, The River in Reverse, Ziggy Stardust. I have a couple of cassette tapes written in arabic which I can't read but love.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
...I know you aren't supposed to say air and water and those obvious things, but unfortunately some of our policy makers think we can (live without them). Honestly, I'd almost rather list six things I can live without, because I think I have so much and also because I can be really good at being ascetic. Sometimes I like to do without just to do something different. I like washing dishes by hand when I have time, but I appreciate having a dishwasher. I do what I can.

The fact that there is something called "Body Wash" makes me angry. Sorry. I know there are fans out there and I'd hate to turn anyone off over one little thing. We are complicated beings.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
How a shift in what we value as a society could have a major, positive impact on human well-being and the natural world we live in.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Ready to have a change of scenery OR stay at home and not be around people (I'm with 48 little ones everyday during the school year and sometimes I need to be away from the voices, voices, voices!).
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I tend more toward being an open book than a closed book, so just ask and I'll likely admit.
