One useful lesson I've learned about myself is that the passion, ambition, and commitment with which I pursue my career in Hollywood can make me look reckless in the eyes of folks who don't share my convictions. I am not Prince Charming. In fact, I am exactly the reason your Mama told you not to date artists! My relationship with my family is respectfully distant, my personal finances are in drydock, I do not own a car and I talk about film and the performing arts all the time. If you are not working in the performing arts (or even if you have one foot in the "real world"), the risks I am taking with my future will probably scare you. For that reason, let's keep it in the family. Performing arts professionals only, please.
If you are an actor, director, or designer with a long history working in the performing arts, sooner or later we'll need to have that awkward, scary moment when we look at one another's work to see if we are getting involved with someone who doesn't know their craft... and then you'll see that I am indeed building something magnificent, beautiful, and more than self-sustaining.
