My self-summary
7 Things About Me:

I believe, as Antoine de Saint-Exupéry so eloquently put it in The Little Prince that, "It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye." My life has been a quest to see with the heart what is beneath the surface of things. Therefore, spirituality has been quite important to me. That said, I don't wear my spirituality on my sleeve and nor do I claim any particular faith or religion. I'm more interested in Truth (what actually is) rather than any superstition, story or myth about what is.

Let’s get real! I’d rather that we be authentic and honest from the very beginning, even at the risk of rejection, rather than trying to influence or manipulate our opinions of one another! If you’re up for this game of truth, let me know and I’ll tell you more.

I’m very choosy about whom I sleep with. I’d rather be single and sleep alone than settle. While the right chemistry may not be the most important thing, it’s pretty high on the list!

I traveled around the world for 2 years in my early thirties until I finally asked directions and found my way home. New Zealand and Indonesia were two of my favorite countries. I love to travel and finally made it to Africa in 2010. I spent most of the 4 months I was in Africa around Cape Town, South Africa but I also took a few weeks to drive up the West coast to Namibia, a beautiful, sparsely populated country. Recently I drove to Toronto to attend a Hypnotherapy seminar and stopped in Moab, UT on my way back—one of my favorite places for mountain-biking and hiking.

Music can sometimes bring me to tears. I play the piano and guitar for fun but I’m not giving up my day job anytime soon! My tastes in music run from New Age to Classical, Folk and World to Pop.

I’ve been into photography for many years and embraced Digital Photography as soon as the first digital cameras arrived on the market. I used to teach classes in digital photography and Photoshop but nowadays I take pictures mostly for my own enjoyment. You can see a few of my pics here: http://goo.gl/yWPESz.

I have a blog on StumbleUpon which you can find here: http://www.stumbleupon.com/stumbler/davidgrove/likes. You can also check out my Twitter Feed here: http://twitter.com/Dahveed7. Both of these will—if you read between the lines—tell you quite a bit about me.
What I’m doing with my life
I just made a commitment to become a counselor and I’m enrolled in this terrific program called Interchange: http://www.interchangecounseling.com/. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to make a personal shift in their life or would like to facilitate others to do so. I can’t say enough good things about it so check out my Yelp review if you’d like to know more: http://goo.gl/Ci0fW6.

I’m supplementing Interchange by auditing classes at SFSU. It’s great to be back at school and I’m thoroughly enjoying learning for learning’s sake! Last semester I took classes on Critical Thinking and Clinical Psychology and aced both! My classes are more consistently enjoyable than when I was an undergrad thanks to: http://www.ratemyprofessors.com!

At the end of 2009 I took my first HAI workshop: L1 - The Miracle of Love. My heart was blasted open and I experienced the beautiful, open, playful essence of myself and others—while letting go of, or holding more lightly, my judgments, fears and preferences. I look L2 in 2012 and I’m doing L3 this March (2014).

In 2010 I went to Burning Man for the first time. I’ve been back twice since then and I’m thinking of going again this year (2014). For me Burning Man is about the amazing art, the wide open spaces and the warm, colorful people. I’ve never been with someone I’m dating and I’d love to have that experience (particularly if it’s your first time—which is often the best! ;-)
I’m really good at
Being honest and transparent. Keeping myself entertained and engaged. (I never get bored)! Sitting still. (I meditate regularly). Communicating. (I value clarity highly).
The first things people usually notice about me
I enlisted the help of a few friends to answer this question:

Lezlie who tells me that it's my good looks, my playfulness and my sense-of-humor. She also said—and I quote—"that you're darling, darling, darling!"

Deborah says that it's my hazel eyes and my beautiful hair.

Brock says it's my sensitive nature and my taste in shoes. (I'm kidding on this last one. ;-)
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Good wholesome whole organic food. My diet consists of mostly fresh fruits and vegetables and whole grains. I eat meat too but I'm making more of an effort to eat only meat that is organic and cruelty-free.
The six things I could never do without
Good friends
The outdoors
Time alone

The things that I could do without (but don't want to) include:
Healthy organic food
My beautiful home
Free time
My books
My Mac Desktop and Laptop
My iPad and my iPhone
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The mystery and meaning of life and love. Freedom and happiness and the obstacles to their fulfillment. The nature of of self and other.
On a typical Friday night I am
Doing something different from the last Friday night! There is no typical Friday night for me but my preferred way to spend it is with someone that I care about doing something low-key we both enjoy. That could be listening to music, having an intimate conversation, watching a movie, making a meal together, playing a game or creating merry mischief ;-)
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Spirituality and Sexuality have been the two driving forces in my life. In the past I found myself wondering if they were mutually exclusive but nowadays I realize that they are very intimately connected. I'd like to explore this connection with the right partner through tantra.
You should message me if
you enjoy the company of people who are authentic and real, if you enjoy challenging conversations about things that really matter to you, if you value honesty, openness and transparency, if you enjoy a vigorous hike, exploring the outdoors by mountain-bike or the urban landscape on a cruiser, if you enjoy meandering by foot along the beach, through the country or the city, if you enjoy discovering new places, trying new things, basking in the sunshine, laughing uncontrollably, hot water, a cool breeze on a hot day, a warm bowl of soup on a cold day, goofing around, taking yourself lightly, relaxing, learning new things, giving of yourself, being real and sitting still.
