My Self-Summary

Ah, the self summary. The place where everyone scrambles to get the requisite 100 characters. And I just reached it! But I'll give you a bit more than that, I guess. Basically, I overthink about almost anything it is possible to overthink, and really wish I could get those witty comments out on the spur of the moment instead of thinking what to say a few hours to days later. I enjoy singing, from baroque to rock, and acting, though I'm not as good at that. In contrast, I can be pretty shy around people I don't know and sometimes can't think of much to say, so you'll have to bear with me. Around people I do know I'm very animated and can be rather silly, again, something you'll have to bear with.

What I’m doing with my life

I'm currently at uni doing my first year of the Interior Architecture course, though I'm hoping to transfer to Architectural Studies next year, if I do well enough.
I work at a cinema casually and have thus learned to gradually hate popcorn and the mess left by small children and squealing pre-teen girls (think 'Twilight').

I’m really good at

Sounding more confident than I am, especially in writing, and knowing the full background story of something trivial raised in passing conversation. I once dubbed myself 'an encyclopedia of useless knowledge', although it can come in use every so often.

The first things people usually notice about me

My beard or whatever you call it, funnily enough, although this is getting less common as I get older - I've had it almost constantly since I was 15. They also might notice my complete lack of ability in thinking of something interesting to say beyond the immediate circumstances, a product of talking to people I don't know.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I am very much enamoured of the fantasy/sci-fi genre, although have just recently become more interested in some of the 'classics'. A short list of authors, in no particular order: C. S. Lewis | J. R. R. Tolkien | Garth Nix | Hal Duncan | Charlotte Bronte | Victor Hugo | Gregory Maguire | Philip Pullman.

As to movies, I must admit I'm not much of a connoisseur, despite working at a cinema. I often tend to find the redeeming parts of a film, and forgive the mistakes. This works for books as well, actually.

In music I have a wide range of tastes, classical to contemporary, but this excludes hip-hop, metal and most rap. I tend to like the most music under the banner of 'alternative rock'. My favourite artists at the moment would be: The All-American Rejects | Anberlin | The Beatles | Birds of Tokyo | Sarah Blasko | Jack's Mannequin | Luca | Paramore | Snow Patrol | Switchfoot.

As to food, I don't really have any qualms, except an aversion for most seafood.

The six things I could never do without

Hm. I guess...
1. An alarm clock - to force myself to get up in the mornings.
2. A new book to read.
3. My voice so I can sing to myself absentmindedly.
4. A cat of some form.
5. The stars to gaze at.
6. My JustRyam :)

I spend a lot of time thinking about

How various urban planning related problems could be solved, which sounds pretty nerdy I guess. If you're a bit confused, then that means things like realigning roads, new squares and parks, and generally how a town centre might be made to look better.
I also spend time wondering where my life is going, contemplating life's mysteries, and being thankful for I have.

On a typical Friday night I am

Doing one of three things, in order of likelyhood: sitting at home watching TV/on the internet, at work selling people food they really don't need to eat, or out with my friends somewhere.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

Frankly? I'm not very good at keeping secrets, or that is, my own secrets, so there's not much about me which you can't find out, with some gentle prodding. I guess two things that I consider to be mainly 'private' to myself are slightly contradictory. The first is that I'm gay, since most people can't usually guess it straight off (no pun intended there), and I don't really tell people unless it's necessary, although of course all reading this would already know that. The other is that I don't really like people who are overtly gay, as it seems to me, correct me if I'm wrong, that it's all one giant act to somehow fit in. I'm not saying you have to be a 'real man' for me to like you, I'm certainly not all masculine myself (I mean, singing and acting? how much more stereotypical can you get? ;P), but, I mean really, I'm gay, so I like guys - acting like a girl isn't going to get you extra points

You should message me if

You're fun, able to take a joke and perhaps shoot one back, able to have and interested in intelligent conversation, and are of the opinion that 'normal' isn't always a good thing.
