My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm a writer and musician who grew up in the Midwest, went to college and grad school out East, and then returned to my roots. I've published in the US and UK and am working on a full length album--which is taking a lot longing than I would like. I've often thought of myself as a Golden Retriever trapped in a man's body.

I'm the kind of guy that could be just as happy staying in, cooking a good meal and either watching a movie or reading a book. I could be just as happy going out to a bar or restaurant with friends. I go to a fair amount of shows and cook at home most days out of the week. Spending the day golfing, going for bike rides, camping, yoga, going to the beach or snowboarding (although not many options for that in Illinois) are all examples of ideal days.

I'm looking for someone who's social, funny, intelligent, and slightly irreverent--ok maybe very irreverent.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I write literary fiction and have completed one novel (looking for publication), publishes some short stories and am at work on a new novel. I also play guitar/keyboards for my latest band: a post-metal, post-jazz, post-rock amalgam. For work, I do freelance SEO writing.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.

Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Books: Anything by Thomas Pynchon, James Joyce, Don DeLillo, David Foster Wallace, William Gaddis and Borges. But I've been known to dip into Stephen King, Patterson, Rowling and Moore from time to time.

Movies: I like a good amount of art-house movies but am not opposed to the summer blockbuster. Wes Anderson has yet to fail me.

TV: Just about anything on HBO, Comedy Central, FX or AMC, and about half of Showtime. Very sad Boss was canceled. Breaking Bad, Deadwood, & Arrested development are my favorites.

Music is very eclectic: I've been getting into a lot of jazz, hip hop and funk at the moment but I dig some indie and electronica; although, it should be noted that I'm a metal-head at heart. To illustrate, within a 1-month span I saw Converge, Robert Glasper, Menehan Street Band, Chicago Underground Duo, Thundercat and almost made it to Flying Lotus. The National is awesome; Im still waiting for a chance to see Sufjan Stevens but Yob was one of my favorite shows of the year. Basically most things outside of country and dub-step will work.

Food: I don't believe in mayo or onions--pretty sure they started WWI.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Music (especially my guitar)
Red Meat (I limit myself but Good God this one can't just disappear)
Proximity to a good dentist
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
The new face of postmodernism and a good sandwich
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Either out at a show, bar or restaurant or hanging out with some good beer/booze and listening to vinyls with something smokable!
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I took a year of Italian in College and the only thing I can remember is how to ask someone if they want to watch basketball. "Tu giocare il pallecanestro?"

And even that might be wrong.
