My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Why hello. Insert the standard 'tough to put it in text' disclaimer, but let's give it a shot. I'm smart, loyal to a fault, sarcastic, often funny, trusting (gullible? OK a little), trustworthy, and frequently tangential (I often type in parentheticals, though it's tougher to speak that way).

I'm a Nebraska native, and while I went to the East Coast for college, I came back for family and friends, stable work (a career, not just a job), and the people in general (people wave to other drivers here... sometimes)
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Working the 8 to 5 (Wasn't it supposed to be 9 to 5?). Six years with the company and it's been great so far. I really enjoy the people I'm working with.

Away from work, I've got my standard guy stuff like sports, video games, movies and TV. I really enjoy softball in the summer and fall. It's a great competitive outlet and a good workout.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Problem solving, listening, driving for several hours at a time, math, humility (and therefore, brevity of sections that involve bragging), trivia
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Friends told me that it's my smile.

After we know each other a bit, my more distinguishing quality is my sense of humor. And yes, that's not the first thing anymore. I changed the question. Don't let The Man keep you down.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
For movies, V for Vendetta, Troy, Se7en, Shawshank Redemption, the Lord of The Rings Trilogy (both the books and the movie), South Park, Old School, The Hangover, Super Troopers, and many more, of which I own several.

TV shows: Game of Thrones, The Newsroom, Castle, South Park, Revenge, Orange is the New Black, Warehouse 13, Eureka, and Archer. Modern Family when I can catch it. Also: Card-carrying member of the Firefly cult. You've been warned. You will likely be converted.

Lots of music, mostly the popular stuff, minus the twangiest country and harder rap.

Start with the Lord of the Rings books back in the day. Finished all five books of the Song of Ice and Fire series at a frightening pace. Couldn't put it down. Am now thoroughly depressed with the fact that I'm out of books to read, but the story's not done. Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy was a delight and you need to go read The Martian now. Right now. Stop reading my profile and go.

I'm a Midwestern, meat and potatoes kinda guy. Underrated food among adults: PB&J. It was good when we were kids. It's still good. I make liberal use of the fancy George Foreman I got for Christmas.

Other/humor: Cards Against Humanity. My sense of humor covers everything from lame puns to self deprecation to the dark and offensive. I see no reason not to laugh my way thru most of life.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
-Good company, both family and friends
-Nebraska football (born and raised)
-Duke basketball (it worked out well. Duke doesn't really have a football team, so there was no conflict with rooting for Nebraska while I was there)
-Good steak (we're spoiled here)
-The gym (a great workout leaves a great feeling)
-Foods that you don't eat while dieting.
-A towel
-My reckless attitude toward the definition of 'six things'
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Questions to which the answer would be 42.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Out with friends, or in with friends playing video games, watching movies, generally hanging out.

Like it says up there in the little box, I don't drink much (trying to get into wine, recommendations welcome), but I enjoy happy hour with the gang sometimes as well.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I have listened to Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off" more than you have.

Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
-You noticed a typo. I admit to being human.

-You have great taste in sweatpants, Netflix, throw blankets, and ice cream. Cuddling is serious business.

-You wish to discuss Westerosi politics, the finer points of Bistromathics, the ethical dilemma of The Genophage, or any other post-apocalyptic topic you like.

-You have some other good reason that isn't listed here.
