Moving home.

Jun 15, 2011

I just moved out of a tiny flat in the city centre of Newcastle. A place where within three months one learns to distinguish which emergency vehicle is roaring down the road based on the sound of its siren, where there is an almost continuous stream of drunken knuckleheads making lots of noise outside the window, a place where it is never ever silent for more than a few minutes at a time.

I lived in the city centre for several years, and in comparison, Jesmond seems to be mostly populated by trees, with the occasional group of (what I assume to be) students strolling through in various (sometimes horribly offensive) costumes. Consequently I'm often worried that some kind of horrible  disaster has befallen Newcastle and I just haven't noticed yet. I mean, who would tell me if Newcastle was overrun with zombies? I'd just assume they were students in costume.

But, zombies aside for the moment, I do feel a bit lost and isolated in the posher part of town. I'm kind of scared to talk to anyone because posh people are pretty much an alien race, and they might smell the poverty and chase me with horses! Or something...

Complaining, not even in a witty manner.

You might think posting pictures of your pets or car is a good idea.

It isn't.

I'm giving you fair warning, I'm going to start flagging photos of animals or inanimate objects.

So on the OKCupid homepage, I spotted an advert for jobs:

"Job Openings

Howdy! We noticed that you're pretty seriously tech savvy. Want a Job?

Check out our System Administrator or Software Engineer opportunities. They're sweeter than Mom's apple pie."

Which caused me to laugh hysterically for about five minutes.

"We noticed you're pretty seriously tech savvy." Hee hee hee hee. Ah ha ha ha. ^__^

I'm sure it was a good way to grab the attention of those people who are "tech savvy", but speaking as someone who is almost computer-illiterate, it just made me laugh a lot. Also, sticking it on the homepage means people who know a little bit but think they know a lot will apply.

... Still funny.

Right now, there are vegan-friendly chocolate and THC brownies is an oven somewhere, and I may or may not have had something to do with it.

Perfect start to the year.

When I was sixteen, and I joined this site, I took the OKCupid Dating Persona test and got "The Priss".

Six years later, with a different profile, I took the OKCupid Dating Persona test and got "The PlayStation" - the exact female opposite of "The Priss".

I'm not sure what that says about me.

The reason I'm sitting here, writing inane journal posts is because I just realised that the washing machine is ninja-stealing my hot water. Unfortunately, I'd already run a bath. It was cold. I am huffing. HUFF.

Dear Universe, HUFFF HUFFFFFF HUFFFFF. Yours sincerely, Aly.

I always thought I'd grow out of this...

... But at the age of twenty-two, I'm STILL more excited by the packaging the presents arrive in than the actual presents inside.

This year it's a ribbon, which I've tied around my neck, and it looks like some bizarre ladies version of a bowtie.

And today I was horrified to learn that the word "accurist" does not contain a "w". I'm so upset.

All my life I thought it was "accuwrist" and it isn't.

Woe is me.
