My Self-Summary

How do I summarize myself? It seems it isn't as simple as listing attributes, yet it shouldn't be so convoluted to come off as pretentious, either (oh shit - fucked that up...).

I've been told I'm a really laid-back person, which I guess is a reasonable thing to say - after all, I'm in the very lucky position of not needing to get a job (though I doubt I'd have time with my school schedule anyway - how some of my classmates do it is beyond me [I think they're either aliens or zombies - it's the only explanation {maybe}]).

I'm a bit shy or aloof around people I'm not familiar with (one reason being that I'm terrible with names, and I know I'd forget them if I didn't consciously make a mental note of it multiple times - even then I may have to remind myself in some way, or [to my great chagrin] have to ask what a person's name is again...I really hate having to do it, because I think it makes me seem like I didn't care what their name was before [there's that neurosis coming through]).

If it somehow slipped past you until now, you are welcome to the knowledge that I'm somewhat socially awkward (though who isn't on some level? I only mention it, because I see myself as rather high on the Hazerian Awkward Scale[TM] and I feel it's necessary to make it known rather than learned later on), and I have only so many friends as a result; hell, I only had a couple until high school (I was always by myself trying to catch various arthropods, collecting four-leaf clovers, or pretending to wield a lightsaber). I've managed to catch up to a reasonable level of social interaction, though it sometimes sucks when I'm around people who are way ahead of me in that regard. The one good thing about that, however, is that I don't have too many people to divide my attention amongst - which makes things far easier for me! One side-effect of this seems to be that I'm attached to the few people I can call real friends, and will often forge strong attachments to new people that I can really relate to (that can be good or bad, obviously - I prefer the good for obvious reasons).

Just so it's clear, I have a great love of nature - an emotional attachment I've had since I was a child reading Zoobooks, getting books on animals at the library, and searching the area around my house for anything that moved (as well as learning that you just don't fucking step on goatheads or touch stinging nettles - it's just a terribly stupid idea Dx). This was only amplified by my experiences with camping through Boy Scouts (I am indeed an Eagle, although that may seem strange to those who know me as an atheist). So if you're wondering whether or not I enjoy camping, hiking, etc., I wouldn't worry about where my allegiances lie ;]

What I’m doing with my life

I am currently enrolled in my seventh semester at CSU Stanislaus, and I'm majoring in Music Composition. Hopefully, I'll be able to make a good living off doing what I love, but I still have a few more semesters before I get my degree.

Currently enrolled in:

Orchestration
Music History & Lit. III
Composition
Directed Listening
Concert Chorale
18th Century Counterpoint
String Tech I
Basic Conducting
Classical guitar lessons

Quite the load (it's actually only 16 units total xD)

I'm also writing music in my free time - my current project being a long imstrumental song that I've been working for several months (off-and-on, that is) as well as other small things I think up.

Another thing I've been trying to do in my spare time recently is upload vids on YouTube on my channel "DohsOfReality". I'm putting together ideas for a series using Calvin & Hobbes strips as jumping-off points for topics, and I hope it works out. :] Right now, however, I'm in the middle of a different series - I usually get a vid together once every couple weeks. I do non-series-related ones occasionally as well.

I’m really good at

Writing music, playing guitar, analyzing, playing video games, wasting time I could put to better use, being awkward, getting shit done when I'm motivated, and providing a different perspective/insight in conversations.

I also have a penchant for solving puzzles, haha

My art stuff can be viewed here: http://the-maestro-eht.deviantart.com/

The first things people usually notice about me

The book I'm usually reading in the hallway between classes or in class before it starts; which can be either a "graphic novel" or other fiction or nonfiction book (I'm now reading Carl Sagan's The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark *PLEASE GIVE ME SUGGESTIONS!*). If I'm not reading at that moment, then they'll likely notice my Metallica jacket/Watchmen and TDK buttons; hair; glasses; various band/nerdy shirts, facial hair...and my Joker socks >8D

...if nothing else, they'd realize I'm a generaly quiet person. And then when they talk to me, they might find I can be particularly conversational! It all depends on what's being said.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Metalocalypse
The Venture Bros.

Other
______________

I'm pretty fond of anime, personally (no, I'm not talking about Pokemon, Naruto, or Bleach :P [although I do have quite a few of the Pokemon RPGs for Game Boy, because they're awesome and addictive - I even collected the cards back when they were first around xD {I'm pretty sure they're still around here somewhere >.>}]). Some of my favorite anime include FLCL, Cowboy Bebop, Fullmetal Alchemist, Samurai Champloo, and Rurouni Kenshin (others I can't remember the names of or haven't seen enough of to merit mention even though I may have liked them).

To be continued! (perhaps)

The six things I could never do without

Love - of all kinds
Music
Entertainment (including humor)
A good book/comic
Nature/science
The ability to think, be creative, and have conversations with other people

I spend a lot of time thinking about

How to get from E minor to B minor to D major to C major to A minor to G major back to E minor while retaining the coherence of the piece...

...oh, sorry < D I'm writing a string quartet for my composition class. It's fun :D (although monumentally, headache-inducingly frustrating at times)

On a typical Friday night I am

Either hanging out with friends or doing stuff at home like playing video games, surfing the web, going to a music performance at school, or doing homework that doesn't take too long.

I'm certainly not pondering about taking over the world... >.>

...though on Monday nights I'm playing D&D with an awesome group :D

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I have a man-crush on Lee Ermey |D

Wait - you said private... >.>

Did I mention George Carlin? I love that man xD

You should message me if

...you think we'd either make good friends; be a good match; just want to talk about music, science, anime, comic books, video games, animals, etc.; and be able to have an engaging conversation :]
