My Self-Summary
Update: All that's true and all, but it's a bit out of date.
So I got to DC, interned at a magazine, survived Americorps, moved out of Columbia Heights, moved into the ghetto, had three bikes stolen, bought a ping-pong-table, got a job I love, had a tonsillectomy, discovered my dead roommate and my house burned down, taking with it just about everything I owned. I then moved back into Columbia Heights, got another ping-pong table, and some pretty cool roommates. I've been there for a year now, and it's been relatively smooth sailing for a while.
What I’m doing with my life
I’m really good at
The first things people usually notice about me
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
A)The Shadow of the Wind, The Brothers K (by David James Duncan, not The Brothers Karamazov), The Time Traveler's Wife, Cloud Atlas, Snow Crash, and I really enjoyed The Raw Shark Texts.
B)Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, Brick, I Heart Huckabees, Shaun of The Dead, Hot Fuzz, The Big Lebowski, Batman Begins, Raiders Of The Lost Ark, Iron Man, Cool Hand Luke, Dazed and Confused, Oh Brother Where Art Thou... I have to stop or I'll just keep going... and no one wants that, trust me.
C)The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, Cake, My Morning Jacket, the Handlebars song by the Flobots, though I'm sure the rest of their stuff will grow on me, Led Zeppelin, Weezer, Yonder Mountain, anything Andy Irvine has ever been in, likewise Sam Bush.
D)I love food. I love trying new things. I'll try most things once, and as opportunities have provided themselves, have. Not all of them have been delicious. (For instance: "Turtle tacos are not something I ever feel like I need to try again.") I find cooking to be a very zen experience and I love making stuff from scratch for the first time. I'm not hugely into sweet things... I'm a far bigger fan of salty, savory and spicy. (I bake a mean cheddar & herb soft pretzel.) I'm a big fan of farmer's markets. I don't utilize them as often as I'd like, but it makes me feel good to know where/who my food comes from.
The six things I could never do without
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What it's going to be like three years from now when I can look back on this past year with some added perspective.
Women.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
Said nickname: "Captain Smooth."
I acquired it immediately after walking into a doorframe.
