I am a Master's student, finishing up the current round of school and wondering what to do next. I spend much of my time obsessing over music - listening to it, collecting it on vinyl, reading about it, writing about it - you get the idea. I'm not single-minded, though; I'm interested in a wide array of seemingly arbitrary things: food (both cooking and eating it), reading (an odd assortment of science fiction, 19th century novels, and comics), biking, running, walking/hiking (really any way of moving under my own power), juggling, philosophy, logic/math, and a probably unhealthy amount of TV. In case you haven't caught on by now, I'm a huge nerd, but don't worry - not the kind that's afraid of social interaction.

Finishing my Master's in Artificial Intelligence (no, I am not designing Skynet) and enjoying copious amounts of free time for the first time since I started college. I'm training for my first marathon, and I'm seriously contemplating hiking the AT after graduation, if I can get a friend to go with me.

Cooking (or so I'm told).

It can be hard to get me talking, but also hard to stop me once I get started. Though, at this point, people probably notice the wild, bushy, mountain-man state of my beard before they notice that.

Books/printed media: The Dispossessed, Moby-Dick, Ubik, Fun Home (and various other comics/manga - Black Hole, Tomine's Optic Nerve, Tezuka, Otomo's Akira, Y: The Last Man, etc.), Anna Karenina, Calvin & Hobbes, Darwin's Dangerous Idea, Cryptonomicon, anything by Borges, V.

Movies: Yi Yi, Fargo, Being There, Brazil, The Wicker Man (YES the original one), Monty Python's Life of Brian, The Brood, Eastern Promises, The Conversation, Children of Men, Alien, 2001: A Space Odyssey

Music: This varies greatly from day to day, but some general favorites include Neil Young, Harvey Milk, The Kinks, "Illmatic", Caetano Veloso, My Bloody Valentine, Funkadelic, Townes Van Zandt, Magma, This Heat, and Arthur Russell. If it's not obvious, I'm a bit obsessive about music, and I thoroughly enjoy all kinds.

Food: When I choose where to eat out, it's almost always Mexican or Chinese, but I enjoy any interesting food (i.e. anything other than bland chain restaurants). When I'm cooking, I almost always make dishes that are Chinese or Chinese-inspired.

Drink: Victory Prima Pilsner, Terrapin Rye Pale Ale, Weihenstephaner Hefeweizen, Rogue Dead Guy Ale, Laphroaig, Elijah Craig, Bookers.

I'm also including TV and video games, because I think it's rather silly and pretentious of OKCupid to not prompt you for them to begin with, and I feel no shame in admitting that I enjoy both.

TV Shows: Spaced, The Wire, Twin Peaks, Arrested Development, Peep Show, The Offices, LOST, 30 Rock, Freaks and Geeks.

Video games: Shadow of the Colossus, Chrono Trigger, Portal, Rock Band, Mario Kart, Street Fighter (II, III, IV - any, really), Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

Computer, wok, iPod (or some other device storing music), good headphones, a good chair for reading and other activities requiring sitting, bike.

Strange abstractions, philosophical and logical puzzles and problems, silly pop music, anything psychedelic, heavy, or epic.

Out with friends if there's something to do, listening to records or watching movies if there's not.
