My self-summary
Southern boy, nerd, general appreciator of the universe. More comfortable in the woods than in my house. I tell interesting stories.

What I’m doing with my life
Getting paid to program computers, climbing (on rock whenever I can, on plastic most weeks), drinking whisky, reading, spending waaaay too much money on espresso. Looking at snowpack levels, hemming and hawing about whether this will be the year I do the PCT. Oh, and playing the guitar very poorly.
I’m really good at
Finding the best item on the menu. Cooking pretty amazing Chinese food.

To even things out a bit, how about I tell you something I'm really terrible at: naming things. Never ask me to name anything. Sometimes I fail to even come up with specific nouns, which means that I end up referring to a lot of things as "the thing."
The first things people usually notice about me
It can be hard to get me talking, but hard to stop me once I get started. Most of my friends claim they found me intimidating or standoffish before they knew me, which is pretty hilarious because I am neither of those things at all.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
These lists are pretty ridiculous, but I spend lots of my time being interested in things, so whatever.

Food: falafel, pizza, rainier cherries, unagi, asparagus, giant jars of Adams peanut butter, cochinita, szechuan twice-cooked pork.

Books: Currently digging into Proust (yes I am a pretentious ass, shutup) and some Seamus Heaney poems. Favorites include Riddley Walker (Hoban), Go Tell It On The Mountain (Baldwin), The Dispossessed (Le Guin), Moby-Dick (Melville), Infinite Jest (DFW), Gene Wolfe (The Book of the New Sun, Fifth Head of Cerberus, etc.), Ubik (PKD), Fun Home (Bechdel), Anna Karenina (Tolstoy), anything by Borges, V. (Pynchon), Little, Big (Crowley).

Movies: Yi Yi, Fargo, Blue Velvet, Being There, Ikiru, Spirited Away, Monty Python's Life of Brian, The Brood, The Conversation, Children of Men, Alien, 2001: A Space Odyssey

Music: This varies greatly from day to day, though right now I'm on a big Scottish folk kick courtesy of Alasdair Roberts, Dick Gaughan, and of course Bert Jansch. Some general favorites include Neil Young, Peter Ivers, Thelonious Monk, Harvey Milk, The Kinks, "Illmatic", Caetano Veloso, My Bloody Valentine, Funkadelic, Townes Van Zandt, Magma, This Heat, and Arthur Russell.
The six things I could never do without
Books, garlic, my guitar, my rope, a good straight-backed rocking chair, and water—lots of water.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Mountains. Breathing. Trivial bullshit.

THIS crazy shit: http://blogs.scientificamerican.com/psi-vid/files/2013/03/magnetic.gif
On a typical Friday night I am
Some subset of: biking to a show, beers with buddies, out watching a soccer game, movie time, book reading, late night food cart run, emergency dance party in my living room, etc.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I silently judge people who take the elevator to go up or down one floor.
