My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Shameless nerd seeks same: The music on my phone has been almost completely replaced by podcasts and the NPR app. My favorite animals are cephalopods- I've been known to go to the aquarium just to hang out with the cuttlefish. I get way too exited about pixel art. This all doesn't mean I'm the kind of nerd who's going to spend hours obsessing about the latest Marvel movie casting rumors, but I am the kind who'd love to hear about that obscure author you love or that crazy article you read. And then I'll go see the movie anyway, regardless of who's in it.

I'm the kind of person who's happiest having a friendly debate. Sometimes I even like being offended. You should have strong opinions, even if it leads to occasionally butting heads. I'm looking for someone to keep me honest and on my toes.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Grad school in synthetic biology, so some day I'll grow up to be a scientist. I tried being a productive member of society for a while, but the siren call of academia was too much for me.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Making popcorn. Forget that microwaved over-buttered junk, popcorn is an art.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Currently on a fairly serious Ray Bradbury binge. This man is a master wordsmith, how did you let me go this long without realizing it, World? In general I'm reading lots of short story anthologies as part of an ongoing project to read more foundational sci fi (The Foundation series was too dry for me though. Weird). Discovering Alfred Bester has been the highlight so far. I also thoroughly enjoyed John Hodgman's books of fake trivia.

Favorite TV shows: the Venture Bros, Game of Thrones, Archer, the Daily Show, and Top Gear even though I'm not actually interested in cars.

As far as music goes: The Decemberists, They Might Be Giants, Jonathan Coulton, whatever Pandora insists I should like which is usually something Shins-adjacent but not actually the Shins, or anything with a female vocalist and a piano. I've mostly been listening to a lot of ambient music at work, like Sigur Ros, Emancipator, Grails, and Glorie, so if you have some suggestions like that I'd love to hear them.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Parenthetical statements, a wide assortment of podcasts, and a good coffee stout.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
The future. Not making plans so much as being bitter about the current dearth of rocket ships.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
"My two favorite things are commitment and changing myself."

You need someone to mock terrible movies with. You enjoy dark beers, or know how to brew a Flemish sour. You're good enough at geography to save my pub trivia team. You would have been one of the two people who got it when I dressed as Tom Servo for Halloween. You like starting conversations in the middle- I'll play along.
