My Self-Summary
I don't understand people who move from the East Coast and say they miss the seasons. I'm happy to be back in LA, where the sun shines year round and people look outside and actually smile.
That doesn't mean I don't like to leave. I relish the opportunity to travel. I think our language, culture, and upbringing make us think in a certain way, and the best way to gain perspective is to learn a new language and live in a completely different place. I've lived in Costa Rica, Japan, and China, and am continually surprised by the similarities between people worldwide... and the differences.
For instance, in LA raw horse meat isn't a delicacy, or so it seems...
What I’m doing with my life
That said, I enjoy my job, and look good in a suit.
I’m really good at
The first things people usually notice about me
"my duvet" (according to another friend)
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
As for books, I'm much pickier because they take longer to read. I like good books, regardless of genre, and am very frustrated when I pick up a bad one, because I always read them to the end. My shelf has countless books that aren't likely neighbors: Mark Twain, sci-fi, Japanese Art, Italian Cooking.
Music... I like live music. Something's lost when recording a song. I'm not sure what it is, but it's there when you hear it live.
And I saved food for last. That's funny, because I rarely save food. I love food, and I'll eat anything. I think food is an art, and am impressed time and again by what people (other people) can do with the same things I have in my fridge. My own cooking skills leave something to be desired, but I'm learning (see above re: omelet flipping), and I'm all for trying to make everything from chili burgers to souffles. I'll try anything once... though I'm not eating scorpion again, that was just silly of me. I think it still had the venom in it, so my face got all puffy.
The six things I could never do without
sunshine
laughter
tortilla chips and fresh salsa and guacamole (one item)
a good pillow
my backgammon set (call me an old man and I'll gammon you!)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
if there's room on the tivo
how complicated and simple life is
what's for dinner
the strange interaction between business, politics, and people
