I live in a room that I pay for and I lead a pretty conservative
life overall but I've always secretly felt like a vagrant at heart,
a vagabond, ragamuffin... I dream of wandering around the desert in
my bare feet and talking to the desert animals in their strange
language. They'd tell me where the water is and where the holes of
murderous snakes are (the ones that it's all right to eat). I like
to think I was born with witch blood and that's what will drive me
into the wild.
Actually, it's more likely that I'll be cutting brochures for a
living since it's the only thing I've studied for lately.
What I’m doing with my life
Living quietly, paycheck-to-paycheck. I draw a lot. Sometimes
exciting things happen but more often than not they are exciting in
a hazardous way, like having a panic attack or drinking too much
and trying to play the guitar. This last thing is a hazard to my
neighbors and loved ones. It is still fun for me.
I’m really good at
I'm good at making people feel awkward in sort of a fun way.
Sometimes it takes work to get conversation out of me, but the
result is usually good feelings for all involved.
I consider drawing my raison d'etre, but I've been struggling to
find time for it these days. I love ink and gouache especially. I
used to mainly use just one medium round brush but I recently got
my hands on a lot of vintage dip pens and nibs so I've been
practicing my penmanship too. I studied graphic design for a bit so
Adobe CS is sort of my other medium. Digital is a necessary evil in
The first things people usually notice about me
I hope it's my knees because I think my knees are fabulous.
Otherwise, I stutter when I first meet people and that seems like
something they're more likely to notice.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Quick disclaimer: I like a lot of things. You and I probably like a
lot of the same stuff, so here's a list of things that I believe
uniquely identify me rather than a representative sample of all the
things I like.
Books: A Season in Hell, all things Haruki Murakami, His Dark
Movies: Anything by Studio Ghibli, the Coen Brothers, Larry Clark,
Martin Scorsese, John Cassavetes... I like traditional animation a
Music: Michael Hedges, Michael Manring, Erik Mongrain, and some but
not all other CANdYRAT types; Elliott Smith, Conor Oberst, other
iconic sadcore dudes; any band Carla Kihlstedt has played for
All food is favorite food, but right now what would be
great is moussaka and the kind of beer that comes in a blue can.
The six things I could never do without
How about, instead, this is a list of things I will never be
without on account of they will never die?
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Some insanely meta shit. Like, is there really a The Man? Why are
bloggers terrible people? Wow, I mean, Willy Wonka is just...
On a typical Friday night I am
I might treat myself to a bag of Starbursts. God, those pink ones.
Lord, thank you for pink Starbursts.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
My memory is awful. I can't count on it for anything, really. It's
not always obvious to others because I can piece things together
based on immediately available evidence pretty well, but just as
often as not my answer to questions like "how was your weekend?"
will be a guess or even made up completely.
You should message me if
Message me for any reason at all. No matter who you are, I am
probably genuinely curious to know about you.
