I am a nerd when it comes to books. I tend to only read non-fiction
such as current events, history, comparative religion, etc. I am
re-reading the Dalai Lama's Universe in a Single Atom. All about
his journey to find cohesion between his Buddhist faith and
science. I find it fascinating at least. :)
Music is broad, but here is a list of gimme's that I love. In album
form, anything Beatles. Dylan. Old Motown. Early reggae, and not
just Marley. Traffic. Sublime. Nirvana. Pearl Jam. Old hip hop
pre-Ja-Rule. Talking Heads. Some punk, earlier stuff mostly. Early
outlaw country e.g. Cash, Nelson, Waylonm. Bluegrass. Good classic
rock and not the 80's crap they pawn off now as classic. Miles
Davis. Robert Johnson. ummm I am going to stop there because I have
more categories. PS If you love Otis (apparently I need to add his
last name) Redding, SUPER bonus points!
Live music, I prefer jam bands, bluegrass, funk, reggae, the
occasional jazz show. LOVE Yonder Mtn String Band. I've seen them
more than any other band. Roughly 25 times now. Phish is high up
there. Any one of the Dead projects, especially have enjoyed
Furthur. Any Claypool project is a ok! Love going to music
festivals big and small. Just enjoy the variety of music, good
people, and hard partying all while camping for 3 days. Ahhh. I am
getting wistful. On a local level i will go see pretty much
anything once. I am a big believer in supporting local music as
much as possible.
Wow I got a lot more to go huh?
Ok, movies. I love Forrest Gump. I figured i should get the most
cheeseball one in there first. Big Lebowski. Actually, just like
the Coen Bros in general. Um, Stanley Kubrick's Anything. :) Most
Scorsese and Tarantino films. Godfather trilogy. Star Wars trilogy,
and Revenge of the Sith was pretty damn good too. Hmm... always
down for a good comedy. Monty Python movies. I also love good
documentaries. I try to avoid most action movies, romantic
comedies, and high budget suspense and horror movies because I am a
bit of a snob. Plus I struggle sitting through 2 hours of "Meh...?"
I don't push that side of me on people though. I promise I will sit
through movies i deem terrible with a girl and remain (relatively)
quiet. Umm there are more but again more to do...
Oh, and this isn't a deal breaker or anything if you like it, but
Fight Club is one of the most over-rated movies ever IMO. Sorry,
just don't get why EVERYONE loves it.
Shows, I follow a similar pattern. I like comedies. Some favorites
are South Park, pretty much anything Seth Mcfarlane. Both Office's.
Adult Swim. Conan. I also like... drum roll please... documentaries
and non-fiction such as history, science, etc. And of course I
watch at least one hour of Sportscenter a day, usually at work or
combined between the morning for 15 minutes and at bed for 45. I do
have my traditional guy vice in sports.
Ok last one right??? Food. Simple, I like variety, but my favorite
genre (yes, I know that isn't quite the right word. Just being
silly. Thanks for the heads up random grammar Nazi who emailed me
to tell me so...) of cooking would be Italian I guess. i am not too
picky but have some foods i just don't care for despite trying them
for years. Just never acquired a taste for them. i.e. mushrooms,
olives, sushi ( mostly the wraps), and cottage cheese. Otherwise I
like pretty much anything from a candy bar up to fine vegetarian
cuisine.
Am I done? Really???
