I am geeky, crafty, and random.

My Self-Summary

Let's see if we can clean this up a bit now that I'm slightly less manic. I'm kind of a geek. I've been known to study Latin on my lunch break for fun. I like animals, gardening, playing video games, usually RPG's or WOW. I'm just as likely to be reading a pure fluff fantasy or sci-fi novel as I am to a historical or archeological reference text. I used to watch a lot of anime but I don't get much of a chance to anymore. I do love foreign language films though especially if I'm it's one of the languages I've studied. Or a classic work of literature for that matter. I almost never drink and never when I'm going to be driving that night. I don't smoke. I sadly don't get out as much as I used to and when I do it tends to be in private locations with people I've known for years so I rarely get the chance to meet someone new. I've recently been trying to get in better shape and have started biking to work occasionally and want to start trying geocaching though my attempts so far have been fruitless.

Most people would probably consider me to be a raging liberal because of my political views but I see there being a difference between not wanting to do something and it being illegal. So I guess that's personally conservative and socially liberal? To say you can't do something is to me as bad as saying you must. Search for the Golden Mean.

What I’m doing with my life

I love my job but am still looking for something a little more stimulating. Debating on going back to college and getting a Masters or another Bachelors. I already have a BS in economics. Job stuff aside I mostly hang out with friends and family. Don't watch much tv but I enjoy movies (esp musicals, comedies and action adventure) and tv series (Tudors, CSI, Columbo) on DVD or via Netflix (I love my Xbox). I tend to cycle through hobbies. I'll go on a big spinning and knitting kick, then music, then video games, then cooking. Things like that. I'm just kind of laid back but I love to do things with my hands. I'm great at following the rules but awful at following directions outside of work. I rarely cook from recipes and I tend to learn how to do things but just getting the stuff and doing it. And for all that I say I'm random I'm actually pretty predictible I just don't assume that something can't be done simply because people don't do it that way. Reliability is a big asset.

Also I live with my family. My sister is a single mom with a special needs son and both of my parents are retired so it's nice having everyone in one place. I get low rent so extra money for fun, travel and savings and my parents and sister get a helping hand around the house. I am an independent adult though. Apparently it's déclassé to love your family these days. Call me hopelessly old fashioned.

I’m really good at

trying new things. I love to learn. Life's to short to be static. I'm the kind of person who says "Hey! There's a sale on wax. Let's make candles!" even if I've never tried anything like that before.

The first things people usually notice about me

Ummm ask other people? I'm plus sized and have hair down to my waist so that's the most obvious visual differences. I also carry a lapttop bag as a purse that usually has at least 2 books in it. Well that was true but since I started biking I've just taken to using a backpack instead of a purse.

Once they start talking to me most people comment on my weird (and slightly twisted) sense of humor and my intelligence. I expect the people around me to get my off the wall references whether it be to Diests, archeology or science/math puns. Luckily most of my friends are very well educated.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Let's see... For authors my favorites are Bujold, Pratchett, Jacqueline Carey, Elizabeth Barber, and Nabakov (Laughter in the Darkness and Pale Fire can change the way you view the world). I read several authors but these are the ones that if they put something out I'm definitely trying it.

For movies I'll watch just about anything with Simon Pegg or Kenneth Branagh (Shakespeare only) in it. Or anything Jos Weadon wrote. Anything by Mel Brooks or Sondheim. I tend more to sci fi and action adventure than romantic comedies. Though a funny horror or parody movie also rocks. I sadly don't get out the movies (or theater for that matter) much because I hate to go alone and it can take some effort to coordinate everyone's schedules to go.

I love most types of music; classic rock, hard rock, punk, techno, opera, old timey country, folk, filk, pop, parody, and easy listening. I have a special place in my heart (and on my ipod) for Peter, Paul and Mary and most musical soundtracks (Love Sondheim). Anything available on vinyl gets bonus points. I won't even try to list artists.

I'm not terribly picky when it comes to food and I love to try new things. I don't tend to eat sashimi because of the texture but I do enjoy other forms sushi. I love Italian. I love to cook though I don't always have the energy for it since I get home from work pretty late most nights. Oh and right now I'm on a bead breaking kick. I'ld also like to find more local restaurants. Current favorites include The Melting Pot (fondue) and Jorg's Veinna Cafe in Plano (wonderful schnitzel)

The six things I could never do without

Family
Friends
Small furry animals
Something to keep my hands busy
Something to keep my mind busy
Music

I spend a lot of time thinking about

I could be thinking about anything really. I design puplic service ads in my head. I plan vacations I'll probably never take. I'll have conversations with dead people in languages I've barely studied and forgotten most of. The randomness is strong in this one.

On a typical Friday night I am

Hanging out with my family and talking to my long distant friends online or hanging out with local friends. If I'm with local friends we're probably gaming or going out to eat. I'm not a big bar person since I don't really dink and I'm not big on the smell of it. I used to go clubbing but the person I went with doesn't live in the area anymore. If I'm with my family we're either watching a movie or playing Rock Band 2.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I've always secretly wanted to domesticate the squirrel. They're just so damn cute!

Also I have a filthy mouth. Be warned. I try to hold it back but I don't always remember.

I'm also a card carrying member of the ACLU.

You should message me if

If you feel like it. Can't guarentee I'm not just passing through though so sending a message is a better than an IM. I'm not always the best at starting conversations.

Don't message me if you haven't even filled out your profile. Sorry.
