My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Consider me a not-so-stereotypical, open-minded geek.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm French. I work as a software engineer (and love it).
I like to learn anything about everything. I'm quite the bookworm in that regard and I enjoy reading non-fiction on various subjects: neuroscience, Buddhist philosophy, writing, economics, human biology or ancient Rome history. I also read a lot about my own craft - software development - and related fields. I also spend a few hours a week learning various stuff on MOOCs (online courses), working on side projects, and learning new languages. (Or at least trying to!)
Music has a very special place in my life. I am an ever-learning guitarist and more recently I also developed an interest in music production (recording and engineering) despite being a terribly inefficient musician and producer :)
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Give me a GPS and a detailed plan with clear step-by-step instructions and I guarantee you that I will get lost. Every time I have to choose between two opposite directions, I will 95% of the time pick the wrong one, that's how good I am.

(And should I try to use reverse thinking, telling me that I should choose the opposite direction of the one that I chose, so that it cancels up, well, it turns out it still doesn't work... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Probably my tallness and my rather wild hair.
Winter 2013 / 2014 edit: hair has been tamed, but tallness is still ridiculously mild.
Winter 2013 / 2014 edit, the return: I've been laser-augmented. (⌐■_■) I don't need glasses anymore! I can guarantee that you will melt when you'll see my splendid, unobstructed gaze. And I mean, literally, melt. That's what lasers do. Pew! Fsshhht.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Books: loads of non-fiction on various subjects, which I usually choose on other people's recommendations or trendy web articles. As far as fiction is concerned, my main thing is scifi, from Herbert's epic techno-religious space operas and Ursula Le Guin's ecolo-feminism to Robert Charles Wilson's exotic hard science and Dan Simmons' scifi-horror cycles. I do read occasionally older literature classics and (French and English) poetry. (My favourite being Baudelaire.)

Movies: I'm afraid I'm not very movie-literate (is that even a word?!). I like action flicks with a mostly humorous ambiance. Think Guy Ritchie or Tarantino. Or movies with great cinematography and photography (like 2001 or Blade Runner).

Shows: I watch my share of TV shows, from stupid sitcoms to more epic series. Think The Big Bang Theory, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Game of Thrones and The Wire.

Music: various subgenres of metal, from progressive to avant-garde black metal and most things in-between. Loads of classical music, especially Baroque music. A bit of Jazz. More recently, a shitload of indie/alternative rock/pop/electronic acts. There's a ton of great music in the indie scene. Some electronic music now and then (great for working), mostly trance, dnb, darkstep, chillout and things like that. And many other genres as well. I love going to concerts and will usually go to 2 to 4 concerts a month.

Food: I like simple food: Japanese (udon!), French regional food, spicy stuff (Indian, Tex-Mex, ...) among others.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
The Internet ? It has become my primary entertainment, music discovery, and encyclopedic knowledge source while allowing me to keep contact with good friends and manage my time efficiently (yeah well, for me just like for everyone else it's also a bottomless time sink :-)); it's a wonderful tool that I probably couldn't do without (where else would I see cute cat pictures?!).
Other than that, my favorite tea mug (and enough tea for a lifetime to go with it), a guitar, and my cheap mp3 portable player and its not so cheap earphones that just fucking keep knotting themselves as soon as I put them out of sight, goddamn it !
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
The brain and how people work; beauty, æsthetics and culture; gender and society; philosophy and life; science, technology and nature. Music.

Also, I guess I just think a lot about more mundane stuff like normal people. Like should I eat pizza or pasta, why is Samuel Jackson such a badass, what the fuck were people thinking in the 80's (my guess is that they mixed all the leftover drugs from the 70's and took them all at once. That's the only explanation!), and why dinosaurs are so cool, despite looking like giant carnivorous predatory chicken.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
At a concert, beer in hand, talking music with friends during the soundcheck. In a bar with friends, drunkenly talking about life (I have to admit though that no philosophical breakthrough were achieved when under the influence of strong Belgian beer!). If I stay at home, I'll probably be on the PC playing games, watching cat pictures/TV shows, or playing some guitar. Or reading a book.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
If I'm not getting out of my apartment, I'm most likely wearing a good old pair of ugly but incredibly comfortable large jogging pants. (edit: I now own two pairs of abysmally ugly large jogging pants. Guess what? They're super comfortable, so I don't care! Don't you dare judge me. Or at least, not until you've walked a mile in those pants. Then you'll understand :-P)
You should message me if
Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
You're looking for a concert buddy. Soundchecks are much more fun when you can angrily rant to someone about the horrible sense of rhythm of the crowd that failed to clap their hands on the beat in the opening artist's set :-).

You're willing to bore me to death (not literally, of course) about your passion in life, and you're curious about mine. Works also if you have an infinite amount of cool stories, dirty jokes, random anecdotes or grizzled travel veteran shenanigans to share.

You have great musical taste and you want to share it! I love discovering new stuff.

You want to help me study the correlation between blood alcohol levels and foreign language fluency (and that can include teaching me swear words and slang in your favourite language). I'm pretty sure we could co-author an article in Nature if we come up with an adequate methodology.

You want to hear the best joke of all times.

If you're too shy to send a first message, just send me the code words "Ducks are cool too". I'll take it from there. (It's true. They are.)
