My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Hi, my name's Thom Hastings. I fake cool pretty well.
I'm passionate about people in general, but especially women.
I'm interested in language, the future, and the brain.
Let's start an adventure.

For the last several years of my life, I have not lived in the same place. After growing up in St. Louis, I moved to New York City to go to school for a year. After that, I moved to Los Angeles where I worked for AmeriCorps in East L.A. The year after, I moved to the San Francisco bay area to work for a technology company before coming back home to go to school, until doing a semester in Japan. So I've lived on both coasts, and now I'm back in the middle of the country.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Hacking the matrix.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
dancing, I like swing and sometimes I breakdance.
"Dance is the vertical expression of a horizontal desire legalized by music." - George Bernard Shaw
"We're fools whether we dance or not, so we might as well dance." - Japanese Proverb

The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.

2.) My phone
3.) 88.1 KDHX
4.) My family
5.) My friends
6.) Metta or compersion
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Computer Security. I like hacking, and someday I'd like to hack people professionally and find their vulnerabilities and tell them about them. I'm also interested in Statistical Machine Translation, that is, using computers to translate bodies of text based on a large parallel corpus of pre-translated work and it's statistical analysis. I think about this kind of stuff because in Star Trek there's a thing called a "Universal Translator", I think it's a fun thought experiment to ask what it would take to create one... I think Statistical Machine Translation could be one way. But of course, computers have difficulty understanding connotation and context, and cultural data is oft lost.
On a typical Friday night I am

The most private thing I’m willing to admit
