I am awesome, passionate, and intelligent.

My Self-Summary

Well, let me think about this. Nah, I'd rather not think about it right now. I don't like summarizing myself. It just feels too constraining. Plus, if I tell you now, you won't have any reason to read my autobiography. It would just basically be the liner notes, and where's the fun in that?

I believe, as philosopher Immanuel Kant said (paraphrased though), that we should always treat people as an ends, and not as a mere means. This basically boils down to respecting other people, and not using them like tools. I hate it when I feel used, and I feel that most people do, so I just don't do it.

What I’m doing with my life

I just got my bachelor's degree in Philosophy from MSU. If you are thinking of pursuing an academic career in Philosophy . . . stop right now. It is almost impossible to get accepted into a graduate program, because thanks to the economy, most universities are cutting funding for liberal arts programs like Philosophy. So instead of going to grad school, I am job hunting. Once again, thanks to the economy, I have only had 4 interviews out of over 100 applications. I may have to revise my resume.

The plan of the moment is to take my LSAT (signed up to take it at the end of September), and then start law school in the Fall of 2010.

There are also those plans for immortality I'm working on. Some people think living forever sounds awful. I think it sounds wonderful. If the universe is infinite, then there is an infinite amount of information to be had, which means I could always learn something new. Sounds great to me. Especially great if there are others to share knowledge with. Being the only immortal might get lonely.

I’m really good at

I'm really good at everything, except being tall. I have not quite figured out how to master that skill yet.

I'm also a good listener, and not just one of those people who knows when to go "uh-huh" or "yeah" at the right time. I am usually pretty good at keeping my opinions to myself, until I'm asked, then be prepared. I'm not going to just tell you what you want to hear.

I also love to cook. Sometimes I get a little bit too experimental with my cooking, but it usually turns out good. I have gotten very good at chicken dishes of various types, and have even learned how to whip up some vegetarian dishes as well. I prefer to use organic ingredients when I can find/afford them.

I am also really good at telling when you are lying.

The first things people usually notice about me

My eyes. I tend to maintain eye contact when someone interesting is talking to me, so it becomes difficult to not notice my eyes. Up until recently I would have said my hair, but it is short once again.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Favorite books: The "Dune" series by Frank Herbert, and the "Discworld" books by Terry Pratchett. Right now, I'm really digging George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series. I am now done with the 4th book, and having to grit my teeth until the 5th book comes . . . at some point in the future. I'm also a big fan of the cyberpunk genre, especially William Gibson. I just finished "Oryx and Crake" by Margaret Atwood. It is a brilliant and disturbing novel, which I highly recommend.

Favorite movies: "The Princess Bride", "Blade Runner", "Clerks 2" (because it is so vulgar), but I watch so many movies, that my favorites often change. Best movie I have seen this summer would have to be "the Dark Knight". If you did not like that movie, we probably would not get along, because you probably look down on the comic book genre, or you just "didn't get it". Oh, and I will not leave out the original Star Wars trilogy. I grew up on those movies, and I still love them. I also love the classic comedies, like "Caddyshack", "Animal House", "Ghostbusters", and "Stripes".

Favorite music: You should see my iPod. It is one of the more eclectic combinations of music available. Not big on rap music or country, but there are the occasional songs I like. I have to admit I have so much fun listening to certain 70s and 80s rock, like Journey, Boston, and other cats like that. Quite possibly the best music ever created was by the big name classical composers like Handel, Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, and all those other phenomenal musical geniuses. Sadly, I do not listen to nearly enough, preferring the less impressive works of modern rock musicians...except for Rush. Those three Canadians are fantastic.

Favorite food: Hmmmmm. I'm torn between sushi and curry right now. Those do not sound so great at the same time.

Also, if you are not familiar with "the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy", you need to go out right this minute and find a copy. It does not matter if it is the book, the movie, the TV series, or the radio programme, just go out, get it, and absorb it like a towel. If you do not get it, try again. If you still fail to understand, then you are probably doing something wrong. Try it the other way around. No, not that way. You will hurt yourself that way. The other way. Never mind.

The six things I could never do without

1> Books
2> My movie collection
3> My plans on world domination and immortality
4> My towel
5> Methods of electronic communication
6> Warmth. I despise the cold.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

I spend a lot of time thinking about things that I should not be thinking about. Usually these are the things that thinking about just seems to make worse. I'm becoming a more active person though, other than letting things just steep in my mind.

I also spend a lot of time thinking about things that annoy me. Willful ignorance is my greatest pet peeve. Genuine ignorance, where the individual just has never been exposed to a concept or certain information, is totally different, and I sometimes envy the genuinely ignorant. The willfully ignorant are those who want the South to rise again, and other such hillbilly redneck nonsense, not realizing that the government of the Confederate States of America was comprised of the wealthiest aristocratic families of the South, who could not give two shakes what the lives of the other 98% of the population were like, but they were willing to shovel propaganda to the masses to keep them ignorant of their real purposes.

One of my other pet peeves is the double standard between women and men. After all of the effort put into the equal rights movement for women, only to have a new generation who twists and corrupts the meaning of equality. For instance, a woman who will only date men over the height of six feet, while the woman in question is in the lower end of the five foot range. This is common amongst women, and yes, there are men who do not want to date tall women. These people are morons, and are making a judgment call of another human being based upon a characteristic that they have little to no control over. What other such traits may there be? Well, hair and eye color used to be an issue, but with hair dye and colored contacts, those can be adjusted. Hmmm, what about skin color? I think that most would agree that judging a person solely upon the color of their skin is morally unacceptable, right?

If you want to be judgmental, do it over something that a person can exert control over in their life, such as: weight (with a few actual medical exceptions), physical fitness, hygiene, style of dress, degree of education, employment status, political affiliation, religious affiliation, marital status, or whether or not they smoke cigarettes. These are reasonable criteria that an individual can exert some control over.

Barring expensive and dangerous surgery, height can not be modified, unless a guy wants to be obvious and wear lifts. Women have it easier, because high heels are an accepted piece of fashion.

Based upon my rant here, I obviously spend a lot of time thinking about these things and others, and I'm thinking of writing a book detailing the stupid things that people commonly do, just so that maybe I can get on a talk show circuit, or eventually get my own show, where I can reveal the idiocy of aspects of our modern society, with the hope that some people will get up and say, "That doesn't make sense! Why the hell have I been doing that all this time?"

On a typical Friday night I am

Out having fun with my friends, playing pool, drinking, and frequently breaking that old rule about not talking about politics or religion. Such a silly rule, considering how much fun it is to talk of such things.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I would readily quit smoking for my girlfriend (if I had one who wanted me to quit). I have done it before, and would quit again. I know, I should quit anyway because it is really unhealthy. Well, so is being obese, but people don't seem to be telling all the fat people in this country to stop eating.

You should message me if

You would like to meet someone who is, in all honesty, awesome.
