I am serene, obnoxious, and a contradiction.

My Self-Summary

Have you ever woken up one day and felt like you were (finally) miles away from who you once were? I did. I have been on OkCupid for ages now, and I decided to go through and make some changes to my profile... but I finally realized that what I really NEEDED to do was just start fresh.

What I’m doing with my life

Currently, I work in a law office. I never saw myself as a desk kind of person, but here I am, and it turns out I'm pretty good at it. I'm not in love with it, but I like having a job that challenges me... and one that will be very flexible and patient with me when I eventually go back to school. Huge bonus.

I’m really good at

Just about anything I actually put my mind to.

Now, that doesn't mean I'm good at everything, not by a long shot. It takes some serious dedication and time before I'll even claim to be halfway decent at something. I have learned to appreciate my curiosity, and to indulge it whenever possible, and that has lead to some very diverse interests.

I am currently learning all about cars, as I attempt to get my '86 Chevy on the road one of these days.

It's almost stage crew season, too, and while I've been volunteering at the high school shows for many years, this is the first year I'll have some serious responsibility on my shoulders... that should be one heck of a learning experience!

The first things people usually notice about me

I live in a small town, so the first observation is usually "GEE you look just like your mother/brother!"

After that... it truly depends on the person. Girls tend to notice that I'm overweight, and thus either dismiss me as a "non-threat" or empathize with me, and we spend the next hour talking about the trials of bra-shopping. Guys tend to notice that I'm overweight and either dismiss me as a "non-option", or actually start talking to me and realize that I'm one hell of an interesting person... once they stop looking at my boobs, that is.

Alright, that was all somewhat fictional, but I think it gets my point across pretty well.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

This, I will come back to. I'd really like to fill this part out with some thought this time.

I'm currently listening to Elvis Costello, I had curry for dinner, and I'll be heading off to bed to continue reading George R. R. Martin's "A Game of Thrones" in a few minutes.

The six things I could never do without

A pet of some sort, coming home to an empty house is just not an option.

A large body of water within walking distance. Many of life's biggest hurdles have been tackled ankle-deep in the sand.

Bacon. I can't deny it. I even bake with it. Ever tried maple bacon cupcakes?

Books. Movies are wonderful, but there's nothing like truly losing yourself in the pages of a really engrossing read.

A partner in crime. Be it a friend, a date, a little brother, most of the best things are life are even better when you have someone to laugh about them with.

... I'll leave this space open for now. Nothing's coming to me, and I don't want to invent an answer just to fill a slot.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

The long-term interpersonal ramifications of social networking sites.

The shrinking numbers of endangered animals in the wild. Is this completely our doing, or is there some kind of natural cycle at work as well? Are certain species just meant to cycle out at some point, to make room for new ones?

Cupcakes.

On a typical Friday night I am

My Fridays used to be a lot more varied, but as of late I've fallen into a bit of a pattern. Dinner with the folks, downtown with the boys for some people-watching from our bench, then Checkmate with my best gal pal for a drink or two and some darts, if there's room to play.

I'd like to start mixing that up a bit more, though. Movies? Geocaching? Live music? Road trips? All are possibilities for the near future.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

On my other profile, I recently received an invite to be an "A-list" member. I feel like that's sort of a reward for having remained an active user for so long... Go me for still being single! I think that's part of what motivated me to start from scratch again.

You should message me if

... you like a girl who's one of the boys.
... you're not intimidated by someone who's somewhat bossy by nature (but working on it!)
... you like to explore the world around you
... you're not a fan of breaking laws, but bending them a bit sounds like fun
... you think music is integral, transformative, and provocative, but sometimes it's just fun!

Start a conversation, say hi, what's the worst that happens? :)
