My Self-Summary
Outside of my academic pursuits, I am also interested in creative writing in both poetry and prose. I have even performed stand-up comedy a few times, though I won't claim that I'm an expert at it. I like to engage in long conversations with intelligent people whenever possible, something which I learned from Socrates. An old friend once told me that it is best to talk with someone about whatever it is which truly interests them, and that is quite possibly the only wise thing that she ever said. Generally speaking, I prefer either being humorous or discussing something with intellectual substance, but I am quite adaptable most of the time.
As a person, I am shy at first, but I quickly warm up and when I do, I really don't hold much back. I always have some reserve, but I am willing to share my thoughts if you so desire. Openness is very important to me and that is what makes me feel connected with someone above all else. Two of my traits are honesty and trustworthiness. I am often lost in thought and I can sometimes speak with a Nixonian randomness.
In dating situations, I can be shy, so I need someone to express interest in a way that I can interpret clearly for things to progress anywhere. Once I am comfortable and past that awkward stage, I am perfectly able to advance things. I am allergic to bullshit and I do not play games with people's feelings. If I commit to dating you, then you can rest assured that I will always bring a ready smile and an open heart.
My favorite philosophers are Plato and Aristotle, as contradictory as they are with one another. Like Plato, I believe that there people are differentiated not so much by their nationality or gender as by their intellectual capacity and natural disposition of character. Naturally, I seek those who I find to be similar and intriguing. Like Aristotle, I believe that man is by nature a rational, political animal who is by nature curious about the world around him. I like it when people share my interests, but I am just as satisfied if they have similar interests that I can appreciate and learn something entirely new by exposure.
I am looking for true love and I hope that I find it soon. At no point do I close my eyes to possibilities and I always remain vigilant. Ultimately, even if I date someone and it doesn't work out, I will feel satisfied if I gave it my best, she reciprocates, and we both emerge as better people in the end. Also, I do not wear glasses anymore since I had laser corrective surgery. I'm not sure where to throw that in, but there you have it.
What I’m doing with my life
I’m really good at
The first things people usually notice about me
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
All of Plato's dialogues; Aristotle- Metaphysics, De Anima, Nicomachaean Ethics, Politics, Poetics, Athenian Constitution; Boethius- The Consolation of Philosophy; Herodotus- The Histories; Thucydides- History of the Peloponnesian War; Joseph Conrad- Heart of Darkness; there are simply too many and I am always adding new ones to the list, but the ones above should give you a general idea at least.
Movies:
The Story of Ricky, Wedding Crashers, The Hangover, Borat, Bruno, Pan's Labyrinth, Stranger Than Fiction, A Clockwork Orange.
Music:
Mostly modern rock and classic rock. I am open-minded in this regard, though I am certainly no fan of modern rap or any kind of country music.
Food:
The edible kind. I hate McDonald's. Asian food is superb.
The six things I could never do without
2.) Books
3.) Laughter
4.) Youtube
5.) A pen to write down my thoughts.
6.) Ideas
I spend a lot of time thinking about
- Metaphysics
- Epistemiology
- Greek
- Funny things to say
- Why I am who I am
- Why you are who you are
- Why anyone would ever vote Republican
- Beavis and Butthead
- Analogies
- The past
- The future
- The relationship between causes and effects
- Any kind of dream that I may have had recently
- What has become of people whom I used to know
- Why some people have little obsessions that I'll never understand over things as small as eye color or hair color.
Those are my most recurring thoughts, most of the rest of them are extremely random and if you meet me, you'll find out about them soon enough.
On a typical Friday night I am
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
You should message me if
-You have a good sense of humor.
-You are open to the possibility of a relationship if things seem right.
-You are not a transvestite.
-You like to try new things.
-You relate to the first couple of pages of Aristotle's Metaphysics.
-You like some of the same things that I do.
-You are honest.
When you write, let's talk about some shared interest that we might have. That is probably the best way to strike up a good conversation.
