My self-summary
I'm mostly here to avoid dating coworkers which leads to problems and is the easiest place to meet people once you're out of school. I have a whole list of complaints about online dating though so if you're looking to strike up a conversation feel free to go that route. I change my profile pretty regularly because I'm never quite satisfied with the accuracy of my self description, so I encourage you to ask me questions and not just rely on what's written here. Here are some quotes that reflect some attitudes I have and express them more eloquently than I could.

"Appreciation is a wonderful thing, it makes what is excellent in others belong to us as well." ~ Voltaire 1694-1778

"The good life is a process not a state of being. It is a direction, not a destination." ~ Carl Rogers 1902-1987

"I never submitted the whole system of my opinions to any party ... In religion, in philosophy, in politics, or in anything else where I was capable of thinking for myself. ... If I could not go to heaven but with a party, I would not go there at all." ~ Thomas Jefferson 1743-1826

"If I were dropped in the ocean and told the nearest land was a thousand miles away, I'd still swim, and I'd despise the one who gave up." ~ Abraham Maslow 1908-1970

"Is it so bad then to be misunderstood? Pythagoras was misunderstood, and Socrates, and Jesus, and Luther, and Copernicus, and Galileo, and Newton, and every wise and pure spirit that ever took flesh." ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson 1803-1882
What I’m doing with my life
I help people for a living, and I'm very good at what I do. I'm a Psychologist and I work with special education students at a diverse low income high school district. I promise not to analyze you as long as you don't do anything too crazy. :-)
I’m really good at
I'm good at providing insight, solving problems, listening to people's troubles, being reliable, asking less of others than they ask of me, quoting dead people, exposing people to useless trivial knowledge (particularly in the social sciences), and teaching myself things (most recently how to write left handed).
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm unusually calm. I'm quiet around strangers. I'm a good listener. I'm witty if you give me something to work with. I'm a pretty positive person.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books, movies, shows: I like sports, comedy, and fantasy/sci-fi. Variety is good though, I liked to be exposed to new things.

Music: I like rock music generally. I like punk rock, folk rock, and power pop more specifically, but anything catchy and singable outside of those genres can sometimes be a guilty pleasure.

Food: I like most things. Have you ever noticed that no matter how tolerant you are the minute you learn that someone hates a food you like or likes a food you hate, you immediately think they're a freak?

Other Entertainment: Camping, Fishing, Skateboarding (poorly), going to the gym, and Writing.
The six things I could never do without
I'm not particularly needy, but time alone to think and de-stress is a must, you wouldn't like me if you smothered me.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How to solve problems. How someone with my IQ can still manage to put a frozen pizza in the oven on the slab of cardboard. How fan loyalty makes losing sports franchises like the cubs profitable even when losing thereby condemning them to remain as losing sports franchises. Playoff Hockey. Whether or not John Stewart is the messiah. Whether or not I should have been an engineer. How to start a conversation with a stranger on the Internet. What song will fit my mood today. How you have gorgeous eyes. Where I'll travel now that I have both time and money. An assortment of other things.
On a typical Friday night I am
Looking for something atypical to do.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 25–34
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, long-term dating
You should message me if
If you think you can teach me something.

If you're interested in learning something more substantive about me.

Some things I'm looking for:
-Physical and mental health
-Maturity, responsibility, and financial/emotional independence
-An open mind in all aspects of life
-Someone my height or shorter that doesn't have kids but isn't opposed to having them some day
-Having things in common is great, but your personality is more important than whether or not we like the same music or tv shows.

I'll post more pictures eventually. Don't pay too much attention to my exact location, I plan to be in Lake County but move soon.

Oh, one more thing, if you can't carry on an engaging conversation involving a few messages back and forth on here I'm not going to waste time asking you on a date. There is nothing enjoyable about awkwardly spending time alone with someone you literally met yesterday.
