I am geek chic, politically aware, and open-minded.

My Self-Summary

**PLEASE don't IM me unless we've already exchanged a few emails. I WILL NOT respond. It's nothing personal, I just HATE IMs. I feel like I'm being ambushed. Thanks. =)**

About me...well, I'm originally from Northern Ontario. Went to school in Windsor, and got a Masters Degree in Communication Studies and Social Justice (thesis topic: the politics of independent music in Canada). I work for a small firm that does media relations for environmental NGOs and manage an indie music label/collective on the side.

Obviously, music is a big part of my life. My favourite artists are: Moxy Fruvous, Sloan, Neil Leyton, Red Orkestra, Joni Mitchell, Nick Cave, the Smiths, Alun Piggins, the D.Rangers, Rufus Wainright, Joel Plaskett, Danny Michel, the Clash, Billy Bragg, Paul Weller...well, you get the idea. ;)

I also love to read - particularly cultural theory, Russian lit, Canadiana, beat poetry and history. Must reads: Cancer Ward, An Essay on Liberation, The Motorcycle Diaries, Fuhrer-Ex, Crime and Punishment, Sonnets From the Portugese, Spanish Fly, Anna Karenina, Jane Eyre, How To Be Canadian, Happiness TM, The Picture of Dorian Grey.

Hmmm...what else? TV: I love House, Criminal Minds, Numb3rs and the Daily Show. Movies: Good-bye Lenin is pure brilliance. I also enjoyed Joey and Me, The Future is Unwritten, The Lives of Others and The Darjeeling Limited.

I've been suffering from wanderlust, lately. I don't get to travel much, but I have been to Italy, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic and Poland. Warsaw and Berlin knocked me out - I'm hoping to return next year.

You've probably guessed by now that I love words. My current favourite is sapiosexuality (ie. a behavior of becoming attracted to or aroused by intelligence and its use). Not only does it sound slightly dirty, it also explains how a three hour conversation about the socio-cultural state of 20th century Germany once stood in for foreplay.

Trivia: I'm an only child. I speak Italian. I believe that grafitti is art. I've got a nose ring, and want a tattoo, but I'm scared of needles. I have a subscription to THIS Magazine.

So, I think that's enough about me. Your turn! =)
Now in Italian
Erm...non sono segura se c'e qualq'uno chi deve leggere questo in italiano. Ma OKCupid insista che devo usare tutti i due lingue che so, allora...

...spero che questo bastera. ;)

What I’m doing with my life

Right now, I'm doing media relations. I enjoy it, but I'd like to get back to the arts sector - it's my first love, and my sideline (through the indie music label-collective I manage).

I'm also making a valiant attempt to get back to my writing, which has been reasonably successful so far. =)

I’m really good at

What am I good at? Sarcastic commentary. Political debate. Bad puns. Intellectually stimulating conversation. Providing good music. Writing. Reading. Exploring new ideas and alternative lifestyles. Laughing.

The first things people usually notice about me

Hmmm...physically, my eyes. Or my height. Mentally, my sense of humour and my left-wing-nut leanings.

Incidentally, there are better pictures coming. Soon. Promise. =)

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books, movies and music are all covered (in detail) by the self-summary.
My favourite food, though, is Indian. Definitely. Anything with curry in it.

I'll add that I'm geeky enough to have recently joined a book club. I've also discovered the bliss of my library card. I've been reading more than I have in years, lately, and I love it.

The six things I could never do without

My mp3 player/live music.
A healthy disrespect for the rules.
Fuhrer-Ex (it's my desert island book).
A notebook and a pen.
An open mind.
My sense of humour.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Politics. Music. Alternative lifestyles. The books I read. Traveling.

On a typical Friday night I am

Either hanging out with friends or listening to live music.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I've had a really good experience with non-monogamy - two, actually. I'm currently in an open relationship with a very cool guy (who, incidentally, recently became engaged to an equally cool girl). I'd like to continue exploring that, but it isn't a deal-breaker right now. It is a discussion anyone who dates me should expect to have, though. I do believe in pair bonding, and would like to find a primary partner of my own - I'm just not sure how necessary or desirable exclusivity is.

Bonus confession: certain episodes of The X-Files still make me jumpy. In other words, I get so scared I can't sleep.

You should message me if

You share my interest in politics and culture. You enjoy good conversation. You understand that consensual non-monogamy/polyamory is not cheating. You're willing to meet in person if there's mutual on-line interest - I'm not interested in pen-pals. ;P
