I am optimistic, witty, and calm.

My Self-Summary

I'm a Canadian expat engineer finding the good life -- and more to the point, allowing it to find me! Its been there the whole time...

I believe the best in people, and I'm seldom surprised. I like to have good, fast-paced conversations over coffee. I have no problem changing my mind and I enjoy testing ideas out loud. I like to try new things. I like inline skating and running, dislike baseball, like hiking, no longer wish I understood chess, like cartoons, detest paperwork.

I keep in constant touch with my friends and family back home.

What I’m doing with my life

A huge French conglomerate bought our Canadian high-tech, and I got a contract in Paris. Now I'm here indefinitely.

I like to hang out in the most beautiful city in the world and eat great food. The good life isn't about money -- Paris is one of the most expensive places I've lived in, but it's the simplest and least expensive stuff that makes it worthwhile!

In the interest of cultural exchange, my current goal is to introduce every French person I've ever met to The Sunday Brunch. Of course, there's nothing wrong with a croissant and bowl (?!) of caf au lait, but one mustn't forget one's roots.

I’m really good at

I use to invest far too much self-worth in my job (and I do a good job, holding my own in the crumbling world of hi-tech research). I like to think I have a better balance these days.

I really know how to use your computer -- and I'm delighted if you're technically superior to me.

The first things people usually notice about me

I'm nice. So damn nice. And polite too. Your parents will like me, and we'll probably exchange Christmas cards. Even when I'm wickedly catty, I'm kind of nice about it.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I really like reading in French -- even stupid and trivial sci-fi seems more dramatic. I really like Daniel Pennac, but dislike Camus.

The Royal Tenenbaums -- I was surprised at how sensitive and clever it was.

At the moment, my MP3 player tells me that my highest played groups are The Eels, Alabama 3, The Beautiful South and Belle and Sebastien. I'm actually a bit surprised...

I eat everything. While I enjoy restaurants, I love eating with friends (my place or theirs).

The six things I could never do without

Metro pass. My man bag. My email. Thanksgiving dinner. My best friend.

On a typical Friday night I am

Recovering from the work week. I frequently have guests from overseas, so we'll go out to do something relatively calm in the city (usually pub, seldom club).

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I think small towns are unironically and sincerely chic.

You should message me if

you're in the mood for a friendly chat. I'm looking forward to it!
