My self-summary
I am outgoing introvert seeking a serious relationship as well as new friends. I'm from the Midwest, studied at Carleton College for my B.A. and at Harvard Divinity School for my masters. Currently I am pursuing a PhD in the study of religion at Emory University. My father is Indo-Guyanese and my mother white American.

I would be labeled politically and religiously to the left, as social justice is very important to me. I lived in Mexico for a year administering an education program for indigenous children who couldn't go to school and I studied abroad in Central America, so at one time haha I could speak Spanish well (its been slipping lately)

I'm a romantic person (not in terms of the cliches, though) with a deep sense of the irony and tragedy in the many dimensions of human life. I like people that are dialogic and relational; people that can teach me and are willing to grow too. Compassion is particularly attractive. But if this sounds boring, I like to goof around too ;-)

I am intellectual, compassionate, and quirky
What I’m doing with my life
I'm a graduate student studying theology. I'm interested in philosophy (especially ethics and political philosophy), literature, religion (especially theology). I'm particularly interested in the Christian life and modernity (I'm focused right now on consumer society and economic arrangements)
I’m really good at
Intuiting what other people desire in life: I am fascinated by people, their life stories, their backgrounds, their interests, what makes them get up every day.

Doing impressions and making people laugh :-)

I'm terrible at remembering song lyrics or directions.
The first things people usually notice about me
I ask a lot of questions, tend towards edgy humor, and sometimes seem more jocular than I really am.

Apparently I have a very good memory when it comes to things about people (not what I mentioned above!). People find it shocking when I can remember something about them, something they said, or just a feeling I had from many, many years before.

Finally, when I'm concentrating really hard, I stick my tongue out.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Beloved, Poisonwood Bible, 100 Years of Solitude, academic stuff(!) haha

Shows: Mad Men, Twin Peaks, 48 Hours, Awkward Black Girl, The Wire

Music: Eclectic. In high school I was very into 80's indie rock bands like Blag Flag, Minor Threat, Sonic Youth, Fugazi etc. While I don't listen to their music much anymore, their DIY (Do-it-yourself) simple living attitude, their interest in the relationship between performer and local audiences, and their democratic tendencies have deeply shaped me. I have also always loved the type of hip hop music that values complexity, intelligence, and soul rather than just bling. The Roots, Beastie Boys and Public Enemy are long tme favorites of mine. In addition, ike so many of us born in the '80's, I love catchy, danceable, and absurd '80's pop hits.

Food: I love Indian Food (maybe cause I'm part Indian!)

Movies: Similar to books, including lots of Spanish language films especially from Latin America. The Killing Fields, Apocalypse Now, Taxi Driver, City of God, The Dark Knight, Y Tu Mama Tambien, Amorres Perros, Traffic, The Exorcist, The Graduate, On the Waterfront, Babel, Juice, Amarte Duele, and the magnificent Chariots of Fire are some of my favorites.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What human beings desire for happiness and fulfillment.

What it means to live in a pluralistic world. As a person whose parents hail from very different cultural backgrounds, and as a person of color, the question of difference, overlap and multiculturalism always intrigues me. Both in the United States and abroad, I'm fascinated by how people mediate and encounter difference. Whether it's in a classroom or on a city bus, this question is always live.

I live my life in the space where relationships and ideas come together. Thus, for me, those thinkers or leaders that I identify with provide a window into who I am. Michel Foucault, Barack Obama, Latin American liberation theologians, Martha Nussbaum, and James Baldwin, amongst others, are signs that give a hint of who I am and who I strive to be.
On a typical Friday night I am
Haha these days probably studying (I have to prepare for comprehensive exams yikes!)

You are a person who considers herself empathetic/ability to see understand the world from the other's eyes, compassionate, intelligent, and attractive. I'm not really into money or material things and if you are, that's a big turnoff. I like people that value people.

Oh, if you can put the "quirk" in "quirky"
