I moved here a year ago after almost 2 1/2 years in Boston, and I'm psyched to be back in the Bay Area (was here getting my master's from Stanford in electrical engineering previously). Though I live in San Francisco, I work in Redwood City. Before Stanford I've lived in Middle Tennessee and Southern California.

(software engineer for financial company)
Examples: Most anything by Kurt Vonnegut or Douglas Adams, The Post-American World, Guns Germs and Steel
NEWS: On the political spectrum I'm a social liberal that recognizes that capitalism is the worst system for utilizing resources, except for all the others. Thus I end up reading news sources that report from that viewpoint.
Examples:
Wall Street Journal, The Economist, Andrew Sullivan's Blog, New York Times, LA Times
MOVIES: I'm a big fan of films with great cinematography and lighting. I really like films that just LOOK good, especially if they have long shots on arresting visuals. I will also like anything that follows my TV tastes (see below).
Examples:
Koyaanisqatsi, The Holy Mountain, The Big Lebowski, Dr. Strangelove, 2001 A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, Barry Lyndon, The Shining, Full Metal Jacket, Akira, The Good The Bad and The Ugly, RoboCop, American Psycho, Annie Hall, The Godfather Part II, Fight Club, Taxi Driver, Coen Brothers Movies, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Secretary
MUSIC: I'm pretty damn eclectic when it comes to music. Generally I like most stuff save for mainstream country and rap.
Examples:
Philip Glass, Gogol Bordello, Roy Orbison, Wesley Willis, Talking Heads, Muse, Beatles, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Lady Gaga (though that may be because she's an Illuminati mind control puppet), RJD2, Ween, The Knife, Fever Ray, Trent Reznor, Arcade Fire
RADIO: I don't like commercials, so it's public radio for me.
Examples:
NPR and PRI, specifically This American Life, Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me, Talk of the Nation, and Planet Money.
FOOD: Steak, avocado, raw fish (sashimi, sushi, tartare), Italian food, pricey sandwiches... I'm pretty eclectic in my food choices. I mostly just don't like cottage cheese and cucumbers.
TV: I like satire, nightmare-comedy, surreal cartoons, and Mad Men.
Examples:
The Daily Show, Colbert Report, Wondershowzen, Venture Bros., Tim and Eric: Great Job!, Adult Swim, 30 Rock, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Arrested Development, South Park, Futurama, Stella, Kids in the Hall, Upright Citizens Brigade, MST3K, Mad Men, Adventure Time, Archer, Community, Game of Thrones
