I am loving, caring, and successful.

My Self-Summary

Everyone has a story to tell. Over the years, I have heard many real life stories that comforted me, touched me and inspired me. Most of those stories were told not by master storytellers, but by friends that I am blessed to have. Through story sharing, I have come to know old friends better and develop new friendships as well. So, instead of describing myself with abstract words, I'd like to start with my story.

I was born and raised in China. Growing up in a socialistic country, America seemed like a wonderland far beyond reach. At the age of 24, I was studying hard in a medical school. I could only wish that I had prepared myself for the historic event that was about to unfold. On June 4th, 1989 and during weeks that followed, I witnessed the horror of the infamous Tiananmen Square Massacre at a hospital through the eyes of a medical student. Those darkest nights and days took away so many lives and left so many dreams shattered. Waking up from that nightmare, I realized that I had no choice but to turn that fantasy of coming to America into reality.

During the following year, I fought with a deeply corrupted government to earn my freedom. When I stepped on this land 18 years ago, all I had was $600 and an acceptance letter from Duke University. From there, I started my American journey. For 6 years, I studied neuroscience, receiving a M. S. from Duke and a Ph. D. from Vanderbilt University. During the past 12 years, I trained myself into a computer professional. I love my job at U of M and work on a thriving internet marketing business on the side.

Life hasn't been easy, but I survived. Most of all, I enjoy my life. It is true that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Despite all the ups and downs, I consider myself extremely lucky because of the loving and caring people who were there when I faltered, when I fell. So far, it has been quite an adventure. I truly hope to find that special someone to share the excitements and wonders with, fall in love again, and complete this journey hand-in-hand.

I am searching for someone who is happy with her life, who loves to share her happiness and who can accept me for who I am. Instead using my own words, I'd like to quote from an old English folk song to describe my idea of romance:

"The water is wide, I cannot get over.
And neither have I wings to fly.
Give me a boat that can carry two.
And both shall row, my love and I."

If you are interested, I'd be more than happy to share more stories with you and would love to hear yours as well. Sometimes friends tell me that their stories are far less interesting. However, I am often amazed to find extraordinary inspiration from their "ordinary" stories. Looking forward to yours!

What I’m doing with my life

I have been building my 2 companies during the past 4-5 years. It has been a very rewarding experience which has brought both the financial reward and personal growth.

I recently started running. It is so much fun and I look forward to my run everyday. I am logging an average of 3 miles a day.

I’m really good at

Creative thinking, keeping my promises, treating people with respect, accomplishing what I want to do, and getting business websites ranked at the top of Google (this is a part of what I do for my business.)

The first things people usually notice about me

Many people have told me that I have a sweet smile that is hard to not notice. You have to be the judge.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: The Commandos, Blink, Man's Search for Meaning, The Secret

Movies: A Room with a View, Shawshank Redemption, The English Patient, The Godfather, Life is Beautiful, Ghost, Die Hard, The Road Home, The Lover

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Who I want to be 5, 10, or 20 years from now.
How to take my business to the next level.
How to find true love.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I don't look my age. Just about every other person I meet thinks I am still going through my puberty. The down side of looking young is that sometimes people don't take you seriously.

You should message me if

You find my story intriguing and would like to know me better and share some of your stories.
