I am introverted, cynical, and riftia pachyptila.
My Self-Summary
I'm pretty shy, but have an acerbic and blue sense of humor. It's
gotten me into trouble recently, like the time I stole a baby Jesus
figurine from a house party. I like wearing ties, but I do not wear
them often enough. However, I do wear a
fedora.
I recently graduated with a B.A. in
Religious Studies from a
liberal arts university. The only job I could find was minimum wage
retail work, and I am barely qualified for that.
I sometimes go to the Inferno night club with my friends. While
they are dancing, I pretend I am an anthropologist and people
watch, trying to figure out why they are wearing this-or-that, and
why they are acting in such-and-such way. I sometimes go to bars
and read while drinking
scotch or
bourbon. I love learning about religion,
but I do not tend to talk about it much, because people usually ask
me what I think is "the right religion" and I tell them I have no
clue.
What I’m doing with my life
My current plan is to work in Madison until next fall to gain
Wisconsin residency, and then attend the Southeast Asian Studies
program at UW, specializing in Theravada
Buddhist studies. Currently, I work as
a delivery driver for a Japanese Restaurant. It's a glamorous
life.
I've also started writing again after a four year hiatus. I am not
trying to write to become the next
William Faulkner, but if I was
able to publish a small chapbook that 10 people buy, I would be
happy.
I’m really good at
Being extremely quiet and then interjecting with an joke.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'd guess either the hat or the beard.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Books: The Sound and The Fury, The Great Gatsby, The Asian Journals
of
Thomas
Merton, Seven Story Mountain (also by Thomas Merton), The Gods
Drink Whiskey, most books about religion, Wonder Boys, books on
Asian history or culture, etc.
Movies: Lost in Translation, La Strada, Annie Hall (most things by
Woody Allen
from 1973 to the early 90's), Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, No
Country for Old Men, a lot of others...
Music: My musical tastes varies from month to month. I was on a
long binge of hip hop, focusing on such artists as GZA/Genius,
Company Flow, Cannibal Ox, illogic, and Missy Elliot. Right now, I
am in a mix of protopunk (The Sonics and The Stooges) and
Tom Waits. My favorite
songs are as follows: The Big Ship by Brian Eno, Tom Traubert's
Blues (Four Sheets to the Wind in Copenhagen) by Tom Waits, So Long
Marianne by
Leonard Cohen, and 4th Chamber by
GZA.
Television:
The Venture Bros.,
Futuramma,
The Wire, Californication,
The West Wing, Rome, and House.
I have a deficient sense of smell and taste, so as far as variety
of food goes, I don't have much. The only meat I eat is poultry. I
tend to like Asian food (mostly Indian, Thai, and Chinese).
The six things I could never do without
A library, a notebook, a bottle of
scotch or
bourbon, a good friend who knows how to
keep secrets, a music player, and at least one boxing glove. I
don't like boxing, but if you have so little it's good to expand
your horizons.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Future events involving calamity, if it is better to classify
atheism/agnosticism as a
religion or religious concept, if I was
born 150 years ago, would I have been a priest/monk/rabbi/etc., why
do I love popping
bubble wrap so much?, should
I take up whittling?, it seems like it would be a nice hobby, I
wish I lived at some other time in history, but wait, I like soap
and medicine, on and on and on.
My mind races three miles a minute.
On a typical Friday night I am
Out and about with my friends. Sometimes at their place, sometimes
at the Inferno.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
From the ages of 3 to 13, I was obsessed with snakes, and have
retained a ridiculous amount of random trivia about them. Also, I
mumble to myself a lot. It's the internal monologue inside my head,
but for some reason it sneaks out a bit. Finally, I never learned
how to ride a bike. I am bike inept.
You should message me if
You are intelligent.
If you express fondness and intimacy through insults.
You think whiskey, cigars and dive bars sounds like a good time.
