My self-summary
Did you ever see The Wizard of Oz? That's basically my story.

Up until a couple months ago, I was blissfully living my boring life in Oklahoma (boomer sooner). But then, of course, came the tornadoes... I narrowly escape with my life and the next thing I know, I'm in a bizarre, colorful city full of people singing and dancing in the streets. They called it Portland, but for all intents and purposes, it's about as close to Oz as you can get. I haven't seen any flying monkeys yet, but I did meet a couple of self-proclaimed witches in the park behind my apartment.

The first things people usually notice about me
This seems extremely difficult to answer without conducting some kind of invasive scientific poll.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I watch way too much TV. Quite frankly, it's gotten out of control. So if you've seen it, chances are I've already dedicated a week or two to a netflix marathon. Examples include (but are definitely not limited to): Breaking Bad, Game Of Thrones, Mad Men, Battlestar Galactica, Boardwalk Empire, Newsroom, Futurama, The Simpsons, Star Trek TNG, I also really love sketch comedy à la Mr. Show, Kids In The Hall, Human Giant etc.

Lately I've mostly been reading a lot of non-fiction. The majority of which have been astrophysics/astronomy related. I find the concepts fascinating, but the only way I could ever hope to comprehend them is if someone very smart explains them to me like I'm five. So yeah, a lot of Neil DeGrasse Tyson, Brian Greene etc. I also really enjoyed "The Psycopath Test" - look it up, it was super interesting. Oh, and comic books. I loves me some good comics.

I am most definitely an audiophile. There's something fascinating about the satisfaction that a well-crafted song or rhythm can evoke in someone. I generally enjoy listening to just about anything, as long as it gets my toe tapping or my head banging. Also, any song with a good saxophone solo is an automatic win. A few that I'm currently jamming out in my car to: James Brown - Live At The Apollo; The Notwist - Shrink (seriously, get this album); Sonic Youth - Murray St.; Fiona Apple - When The Pawn... (bonus points if you're also going to see her in October); Sam Cooke - Keep Movin' On; Talking Heads - Speaking In Tongues (one of the single best albums ever made); Tanlines - Mixed Emotions; Curtis Mayfield - Superfly

And as for movies, I have neither the time nor the mental faculties to compile such an extensive list. But if you agree that Ghostbusters is an unrivaled masterpiece, and are willing to watch Nolan's Batman trilogy once every three months, I'm sure we'll get along just fine. Besides, it'll give us something to talk about over drinks ;)
The six things I could never do without
1. Reddit
2. Music
3. Conversation - I'm a talker, and I love a good argument.
4. My box fan - why does nowhere in Portland have a/c??
5. Vision - I think that I'd make a terrible blind person; my sense of smell isn't that good and I look awkward in sunglasses.
6. Coffee. Lots and lots of coffee.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
why there is a "d" in fridge, but not in refrigerator.
