So I read someone else's profile and I loved the way they had it
set up, so here goes (so I guess I'm stealing someone else's format
off of here and I'm not giving him any attribution and he knows who
I'm more of a Kaylee than an Inara, to your Wash but I wish I was
more of a Zoe.
If you ask me who I like as writers, I might answer Isaac Assimov
but I might also say Joss Whedon, Neil Gaiman, or J.J.
My "comfort" movie would be "The Princess Bride" but I'm just as
likely to pick "Bare Naked Ladies in America" (makes me laugh every
time so hard that I feel like I have done a full ab workout) or
"Galaxy Quest" depending on availability, who I'm with, and what
snacks are on hand.
LOTR (both the books and the movies), sci-fi movies and books in
general, I read lots of YA because of my kids, so that we can
discuss books, like "Graceling" and "Bitter Blue" and "The Host". I
liked Ender's Game(despite the controversy that author has reveled
in) and was re-reading the series with my kids. The Divergent
series, loved The Hunger Games series. Loved the way "Divergent"
series ended. Count me in the minority. Reading "I am Number Four"
series now with kids.
Movies? I loved "Lincoln", "Argo", "Les Miserables", but while I am
showing my kids classics, we just recently watched "Schindler's
List", "Life is Beautiful", among others.
I am editing this to say "HOW COULD I HAVE FORGOTTEN "Army of
Darkness"?" Carry on...
Love All Mel Brooks Movies but my favorites are"Young Frankenstein"
and "Blazing Saddles". Mel Brooks, in his prime, was a writer's
"Monty Python and the Holy Grail" and all things Monty
Side note where there is no side- We went to Comic Con last summer
(2013) but didn't dress up. What a shame.
TV? Oy to the vey, I have watched some reality TV, but I like shows
like "The Walking Dead" but also love "The Talking Dead",
"TruBlood" and stuff like "Modern Family", "Firefly", 'Eureka",
"SuperNatural", "Big Bang Theory" rocks! Um, what was I saying? Oh
Music? I like almost everything; Reggae (Bob Marley is something
that the kids grew up on), Jazz (I played Tenor Sax for a couple of
years, so I love Stan Getz, Lew Tabackin, but I also love Dizzy
Gilespie, Miles Davis, really old Louis Armstrong), classic rock,
new rock, pop rock, all sorts of music. Jackson 5. Blondie. Sex
Pistols. Red Hot Chili Peppers.
The 15 yr old boy is introducing me to Glitch Hop and dub step. The
13 yr old girl is making me love Green Day, Train, Cake, Imagine
dragons, One Republic and Sublime because of our awesome ability to
massacre those songs by singing while driving.
My guilty pleasures? Singing Bruno Mars songs in my car as loudly
and as badly as I can. Great stress reliever when there is no one
to come home to and "that" is not available, ("that" is my favorite
stress reliever). Also, I confess. I love "The 20/20 experience" by
Justin Timberlake, both albums and can sing a good number of the
songs until they are stuck in my head. Sighing. But not over JT,
just over the fact that ear worms plague me.
Food? I like to say that I grew up finicky, so that I could scare
everyone later with my adventurous tastes. I love fish, love sushi,
love Italian, love Japanese, Love, love, love Mexican food, love
all kinds of food. I won't eat it if it can lick me back (I'm
Mexican and tongue is considered a delicacy... um, N to the O, no!)
or it can look at me (Yes, I am talking to that eyeball on my
plate!), or it is still moving (live shrimp, dipped in tempura,
flash deep fried for less than a minute and served to the
fresh-off-the-airplane-from-Japan businessman sitting next to me at
a Sushi bar in Costa Mesa... um, dude, you never stood a chance
with me as you talked to me while chasing the still moving shrimp
who had a hard time moving because the tempura batter had gotten
into its segmented legs and you kept insisting that it was fresh.
I'm sure it was fresh, it was still moving. And I'm sure it would
have insisted it was fresh, too, had it been able to talk. Nuff
