My self-summary Propose an edit
Okay...I haven't fiddled with this profile in quite a while, so I
suppose I should do some editing and revision.
Who am I? Hmmm...I feel a bit like the tenth Doctor saying that
(big bonus points if you get that reference). Appropriately enough,
I'd have to say even I don't know for sure. I'm a work in progress,
but I keep learning more and more every day.
In some ways, I'm a walking contradiction. I'm an atheist who loves learning about
the religions of this goofy little planet. I'm full Latino, but
raised by white protestants from birth, and often speak with a
British accent. I have an almost militaristic sense of formality
and order, yet I'm totally opposed to violence (and from the look
of my apartment and office, one might say I'm opposed to order). I
have great passion for the complexity and diversity of humanity,
yet seem to despise it within myself as not good enough or too
weak. I'm great with an audience, but prefer to get lost and
ignored in crowds. I'm compelled to show kindness to absolute
strangers, but can be cold or even cruel towards those closest to
me.
Even so, there are some constants. I love a good laugh. I have a
sense of humor that's low-brow, high-brow and everything in
between. I prize intelligence, both in myself and others, and
suffer fools not at all. I'm also very political and not the least
bit shy about sharing my views on life, the universe and everything
(you'll score even more bonus points if you get that reference
too).
Right, so here's the story: up until about 2 1/2 years ago,
everything seemed perfectly in place. I was back in school, earning
my Master's, top of my class, winning honors and accolades. I had
the love of a woman who'd been my partner for over nine years, and
was almost ready to actually say the hell with nonconformity and
ask her to marry me. Sure, there were some problems here and there,
but nothing's perfect, right? Then one day, when everything seemed
alright, she said it was over and she was leaving. And pretty much
like that, life as I knew it was over.
It's taken a while, but things are starting to make sense again. To
say I've been sidetracked would be a gross understatement. However,
as Nietche said, what does not kill you makes you stronger; plus,
I've learned a lot about myself. Some of the things I've learned
(and yes, some of them will be contradictory...work in progress,
remember?):
1) It's good to have the freedom to be yourself without anyone
telling you who/how you have to be.
2) Living alone sucks.
3) Housework can be very therapeutic.
4) Pets don't care if you leave laundry all over the floor or
dishes in the sink.
5) Having a future that's certain is not always a good thing.
6) Having a future that is totally of your own choosing can be
(fuck that, it IS) terrifying.
7) I like the idea of having a nice-sized group of friends and
going out to socialize, but unless someone actually makes me, I
rarely do it myself...but give me a role to play or an audience to
entertain or inform, and it's a whole other story.
Anyway, if you really want to know the kind of person I am,
conversations are better than advertisements, so feel free to get
in touch with me.

I was once a semi-professional Elvis impersonator (yes, the "white
jumpsuit" Elvis era)...not sure how private that is though, since
it was in front of audiences, and there are photos and video
recordings out there.

you like pina colladas, and getting caught in the rain...I truly
HATE that song, by the way, but since I was also going to say "if
you have half a brain", which sadly is another lyric of that
wretched tune, I figured I'd throw the more well-known line out
there...actually, upon further reflection, you might need MORE than
"half a brain"...yeah, try the whole goddamned thing, and the
ability to use it!
