The self-summary is such a delicate balancing act. How much do you
want to give away right off the bat? Isn't life better with a
little mystery?
I'm 33, but they say I look a bit younger. I grew up on the east
coast, but I've lived in the Sacramento area for about a decade. I
make my living as a
graphic artist, but I sometimes
think I should have been a
musician. I'm a self-taught
pianist and
songwriter. I always
seem to have a half-dozen creative projects in various states of
incompleteness -- whether it's
music,
photography,
video editing,
animation,
drawing,
digital painting or
constructing my robot army that will soon enslave mankind. I'm
always cooking up ideas for my next project.
When I'm not being creative, I'm enthusing about
video games or
gadgetry and
computers. I'm definitely a bit
of a
geek.
I have an adorable two-year-old son who lives with me half the
time, and I share my house with a giant, fluffy fat cat who is
trained to maul intruders.
Those are the broad strokes.
I work in
state government, designing and
building website interfaces. It's probably not as glamorous as it
sounds.
I'm one of those people who's pretty good at nearly everything I
try. Except athletics. Sports aren't really my thing. Unless you
count
pool as a
sport. I'm pretty skilled with a cue stick.
On the creative front, I'm really good at
playing piano,
writing songs,
drawing,
illustrating,
photography,
Photoshop, and designing logos
and software user interfaces.
I'm really good at cooking pancakes, scrambled eggs and Hamburger
Helper. I've been known to bake from time to time too. I've got the
best chocolate chip cookie recipe ever devised by humans.
Also, I'm pretty good at board games, pop culture trivia, driving
safely, old school video games and procrastinating.
I have a wardrobe full of geeky t-shirts. I get a lot of
compliments from other geeks, and just as many questions about what
they mean from the non-geeks.
I've been told I have nice eyes and a nice smile, too.
Books
I read mostly non-fiction. When I sit down to read, it's almost
always to learn, and rarely to be entertained.
Movies
I love movies. I'm a bit of a movie buff. Off the top of my head, I
think my five favorite movies are Wall-E, Pulp Fiction, Memento,
Fight Club and The Big Lebowski.
Other films I like: Amadeus, Star Wars, Back to the Future, The
Matrix (mostly the first one), The Godfather, Army of Darkness, The
Shawshank Redemption, In Bruges, The Usual Suspects, Eternal
Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Total Recall, The Pianist, Minority
Report, Alien & Aliens, Reservoir Dogs, The Dark Knight, Jaws,
Kill Bill, Stand By Me, Groundhog Day, Die Hard, Twelve Monkeys,
Brazil, Almost Famous... I could do this all day.
I love all the Pixar films from Toy Story to Up.
I'm particularly fond of movies by the Coen Brothers, especially
Fargo and The Big Lebowski. Oh, and the Hudsucker Proxy.
Music
I love all music. Queen, The Beatles, The Eagles, Electric Light
Orchestra... alternative, rock, indie rock, metal, classic rock,
classical, cheesy 80's pop music, Rap ...just about anything but
country.
Above all, I enjoy the music of
Jonathan Coulton, who is my
personal hero of sorts.
Food
I can always go for a burger or a steak. I'm down with sushi, dim
sum, Mexican, and Italian. I'm picky about what veggies I'll eat.
But few things make me happier than a nice peanut butter and jelly
sandwich.
1. My son
2. My friends
3. My piano (I call him "Chuck")
4. My iPhone
5. Music
6. Bacon
What it all means... life, the universe, and everything.
I don't have a typical routine. I might be tucking my boy in bed,
or playing video games and watching movies with my friends. Maybe
you'll find me working on a random music project, or editing
together the latest home videos, or going out to the movies.
Occasionally I might be driving to San Francisco, San Diego or LA
to hook up with friends and see a concert.
Of course, a lot of the time I just work on deepening the dent in
my sofa while watching television or surfing the web.
I'm genetically incapable of growing a proper beard. This
disappoints me a great deal. I think I'd look good with some facial
hair.
Forget the "if" part. You should message me. I'm eager to meet new
people.
